Hey All:

I'm totally new to the sport and need equipment and help. I wanna be ready this spring. I've had a couple of lessons but need more and a trainer kite.

If any of you have some stuff for sale AND if you know of a place that isn't a million bucks for more lessons send that on over to me also.

I'm close to Portland but I'll travel, just hit me up here or at: hrgirl18@gmail.com

Thanks!
Kerry Very Happy

I'm sure others know of lessons but in terms of gear, I have a 12m crossbow that would perfect for a beginner. Great flying kite, no bad traits, and its cheap as well. $335 complete with bar/lines.

Also use the search feature about buying used kites. General rule... Get a newer kite (2006 up) The safety features and designs have come along way.

Have fun.

You could use the search feature to find lessons too.

I would wait to buy gear till ur done with your lessons and have you instructor help find some good stuff for you. Just remember to research everything...the search button is your friend....only suggestion I have is to get something newer (06 or newer) and if it's really cheap there is probably a reason.

I guess someone should add that while lessons aren't a million bucks. Your likely looking at a couple grand to be fully set up.

I agree you should wait until after your lessons to buy a kite but there is a bunch of other stuff to get before that (wetsuit, harness, board etc...) You will have a lot of time to find deals on this stuff through the winter so you will be ready for when spring comes around. For gear check out the classifieds at www.ikitesurf.com

....but the key theme is a good learning experience makes the difference in overall success so spend the $$$$ on lessons and all else will follow.

So much good info...all you guys/girls who sent me emails, thanks! Such great insight, referrals, etc. Very cool, I am very appreciative.

After the initial advice I got my trainer kite. Holy Crap I have been having so much fun!! The snow has made it so much more fun. I even busted out the old snowboard from the attic. I admit... I ate snow a few times but totally worth it.

I was either the coolest old chick at the park or the biggest dork (ok, so it was full of 15 year olds and under) Laughing At this point I don't care... I can't get enough!!

I'm also taking everyones advice and saving my pennies for Tonia in the spring time. I wanna learn from the best, and be safe. I read the thread...I totally know that the odds are against me....but I'll take them on. Wink

Thanks again,
Kerry

Well if you think that is fun, wait to you feel the power of a full size kite!! Holly Crap!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Then you will really be having fun. I can still remember my first lesson at the sand bar with Emery.

I could hardly stand on the beach with the power of the kite. When viscous power stroke of that Fuel had me out of the water and sailing through the air. I could hardly believe the force that thing had.

I was hooked from the get go!!!
