I have frequent flyer miles, but not enough to make it to LaVentana and SPI in the same year thanks to the new frequent flyer mileage requirements. Airfare to LaPaz is now over $1000 and pretty much the same to Brownsville, TX.

Try Harlingen and offset your dates from popular travel dates if u can. Other option is fly to San Antonio for cheap and drive ~5 hrs.

It's not a bad drive and you can hit up the cable lake just north of San Antonio before you drive. It's 4.5 hours on major interstates, speed limit is at least 70 most of the way.

2432 miles / 25mpg * $2.935/gal = $ 285 one way and you have a car when you get there.

Not to mention the 6 days u get to enjoy driving RT. Only worth it if going for a while. Not good if u only have 1-2 weeks off like some working folk.

Airfares are looking crazy high lately. I just priced out flights to Hawaii for next March and it was near $900.. almost twice what it was last year for December. wtf? I think prices may head down as oil drops and economy tanks. Farecast seems to agree.
