Hey all,

We're cruising down the coast in a motorhome, heading towards blue skies and warmer water, eventually turning left at San Diego to end up in SPI around the 1st of November. We started at Lincoln City last Wednesday, got skunked with the rain and have since moved south to Floras Lake for a few days.

We're getting ready to head south along 101 to Crescent City and Eureka, CA. Anybody know of any kiting spots along the way that might not be obvious from the road? (pm me if you don't want to make it public and we'll keep the spot secret!)

Once we get down to Leggett on 101, is it worth making the windy trip down Hwy 1 along the coast? Potential spots between West Port and Bodega Bay?

We plan on checking out some of the Bay area and Sherman Island kiting if it's blowing, hopefully Santa Cruz, Pismo, Ventura, and Huntington Beach as we get further south. Any other key spots we should hit?

thanks in advance!

Tony

I enjoyed riding at Stenson Beach....a little north of the golden gate bridge. Very nice beach and decent breaks

Tony....do you and Carol realize how we all hate reading post like this; "We thought we do a little warm weather kiting until SPI then Baja and then we would just mosey back to the Gorge".

How do we become adopted Bolstad Bunch members??? Laughing

For Sherman Island contact Donny and Sandy Parker at Kitopia. 209-480-2067. They are old school and will be able to give you great local knowledge for when and where it's on at Sherman.

Safe travels and good wind amigo.

if in no hurry

go to Ferndale in N.Ca.

take the left just out of town and head down the extremly lost coast for some views and ocean front rarely seen ,excepting for pot growers and sheep

I didn't see San Simeon or C st. on your list

Clam beach north of Arcata? Used to surf there years ago and it seems like it might be suitable for kiting although I haven't been. It doesn't fit your 'not right off the road' criteria as it is right off the road pretty much.
Very jealous.

Tony, give me a call when you guys get closer to San Luis Obispo County area and i'll give you the scoop on forecast/what's going on here/where has best possibility of being on.

We've been getting fantastic swell and wind about half the week for the last month, but if it's hot, over 85, it tends to shut down. Forecast is offshore next week as heat moves in, then back on possibly over the weekend or sooner if high pressure moves out quicker. S Cal works on opposite.. they need fronts or heat. Central coast works on trades.

I will be down in San Diego around Oct 24. If you all plan on being there around then, let me know or I can hook you up with Paul, our assistant editor who you met at KB4C who also lives down there.

Cool Cool Cool

Why would you want to leave Lincoln City with winter approaching???

Gortex and rainboots till June sounds way better than SPI...

Thanks for all the tips everyone! We're puttin' push pins in the map and working on the plan of where to go. I've got a couple of days of errands coming up then we hope to be heading out from Floras Lake to points south by Wednesday afternoon.

Sorry bout the posts Sella! Can't adopt anymore as our kite bunch is already too big! But always room to kite with us!

Hope to see some more of the crew while we're on the trip. We kited with Holly, Matt, Kelly, Reed, Josh, and Joel this weekend at Floras. Had some awesome s'mores and a couple of rum drinks with everyone.

Ok, back to work now Sad ... kiting again on Wednesday!

Tony

Had a super fun time this weekend riding with you and carol. Hope you have a great trip and be sure to post up more photo's!

Humbolt bay in eureka is a good place to ride. And if you have south winds, south beach in crescent city is pretty fun.
