Do you really have to ask? I'm sure it'd be fun to cruise around town on that thing for the lazy, but that's about it. Doubt it really compares to any real skateboard/longboard.

Totally NOT gay!!! But the "Style File" headline is.
No, really, anything that gets people out of their cars for travel is cool. And besides, its not like they are showing off the ability, or lack there of, to do tricks. Its just a more fun way to get around.....not to mention the 30mph on a skateboard is pretty impressive.

I'm sure it doesn't come close to a short board.
I saw this dude on one - I just thought he was on a regular longboard - looked exactly the same until he passed me and I looked under the deck. If it's heavy, I'm sure that would make it feel awkward tho.
It looked kind of fun in person I have to admit.
That into couldn't be more 'toby' tho

A friend of mine in Bandon has one of those things. I rode it for about five minutes, Super touchy throttle "gun". The first time i got on it i hit the throttle and was immediately thrown off, dam near ripped the cord off the throttle gun. Very strong lil electric motor, belt driven with a lil shaft for the rear truck(single wheel driven). the entire bottom is a battery, very heavy. (60-80pnds)
Not to sure what the run time is, battery's took 3hrs to charge.

We have the electric skate at the shop come down for a spin. It will stay on the ground, and it has plenty of power. We have a couple different wire plug in control models .

If you seriously wanna go fast on a longboard go up to Mt. Taber, West Hills, Larch Mt., anywhere else with a big hill and go down it.
BTW, Larch Mt. has over 12 miles of winding narrow downhill road (with more on side roads). My buddy and I used to ride it several years ago when we were building our own boards. It'll get your heart pumping and turn your legs to mush if you can make it even halfway down. Very few cars on the road too. Good stuff.

My son, Kendon, helped build this incinerighteous skate park!
Actually, that kinda looks like him, but the last time I saw him, he was wearing contacts.

Thats pretty cool Gene - and ballsy . I've done Larch on a bike, and that was crazy enough for me.
Got any pics of your boards ?

Unfortunately I don't Chris. I kinda lost touch with my buddy throughout college and he had the hydraulic press and boards at his house (I didn't have much use for them on the flat campus). I can tell you that we preferred riding those boards over the Sector 9 ones we'd tried. I think my friend considered starting to sell the boards locally, but he's probably not quite motivated enough to really start a business so I don't think it went anywhere.
Towards the end the boards could have concave, camber, and a raised tail. Core was vertically laminated wood strips with two layers of fiber glass. Carbon fiber was an optional addition. We'd shape molds out of cement for the hydraulic press and then could make many boards of varying length and width from each mold. Being able to customize all the details was pretty badass and we had some nice quick turning boards that could slide pretty well through a turn, which was critical for keeping speed down (I wasn't into bombing straight downhill outta control, especially on several mile long runs). If I recall correctly most of the boards were in the 3-4ft range.
Brings back some good memories.
