It's a DC custom board made for swell riding. The pads are NSI pads with inserts. The arches on them are pretty nice. It's a sweet board. Tried it for first time on Sat. Maneuvers real well and is surprisingly light and easy to boost strapless. Picks up speed easily on the swells too. Quad fin setup. I'll let Gabe chime in with more details. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Thanks for the photo Tom! Too bad the biggest ramps are always across the river
Jake, The board’s pretty new for me—it’s a 4’10” custom from Dereck Camacho: http://www.dcboardz.com/ Since it’s insanely wide, has pretty much full thickness rails, and noseless design, it has the buoyancy of a much larger board, but is really well balanced in the air since it’s so short. Tail rocker is pretty flat, and with quad fins there’s really little drag, so it’s really fast and fun for all around river riding—unlike a normal wave optimized 6’0” surfboard with lots of rocker and thruster setup with more toe in. Long surfboards also want to wheelie nose up when in the air, and require a lot more technique to stay attached on a long air. It’s almost cheating to use a shorter board. But, compared to even smaller boards I used to ride, this is much easier and more stable on landings.
I think Modica helped develop this design with Dereck, but now he rides the similar Placebo surfskate for whatever reason: http://www.oceanextremesports.com/catalog/placebo-surfskate-p-993.html There’s also this other similar board: http://www.oceanextremesports.com/catalog/totora-wave-skate-p-992.html Both of those have thruster fin setups. Definitely a lot more good options than a couple years ago. Cool to see so many people now riding surfboards in local swell compared to a couple years ago. Definitely a good way to have fun and keep things interesting, even in funky conditions.
North freestyle fish and airush choptop, and some other production boards are kind of a similar concept, but a bit bigger. I think SS has a small board coming out too. Some production boards use more of a windsurf style construction though, and that can be heavy and really stiff. The stiffness is definitely a killer. The 2007 rocketfish was like this, but I think a lot of the companies may be using better construction techniques now. |

cool, thanks Gabe..
yeah, I have noticed on a lot of my airs it would help to have a wider nose and more width in the middle too.... I just have a 5'10" Rusty tuflite squash tail...
I like the North freestyle fish and the Royal High-five, just looking at lighter options, so maybe a custom board..
This is the new one I was talking about Modica on...but that placebo and tortora look way fun too.

Dereck just finished a custom board for me - pretty quick under a month (even when dealing with hurricane shutdowns) - similar to Gabes but 4'8" so it will fit nicely in an NSI bag for travelling
- was looking for something for trips when I couldn't score/borrow/steal a surfboard _________________ Go Deep!
