Nice to see so many people out this weekend at Lyle. Saturday was crazy with gusts to 45+. Janet went out on the 5m and was killing it. Had some nice jumps, I will try to post some pictures later. I was hoping to get some pictures of the riding yesterday, but it looked like it was going to downpour so we headed out.

Got to ride the 09 7,9,11m revs. Very Nice kites. Super bomber and stable. I also really like the new bar setup and grip Thumb's Up They flew very similar to the already sweet '08s, but seemed to be a bit more rugged in construction. They also have the option to change the connection point on the outside lines for more/less bar pressure or turning speed.

Yeah, fun day until Tucker lost his kite (which wasn't the problem), and got towed by me... My leash slipped through his hands when we took off, and ripped his palm open from his pinky to his middle finger, probably a good 1/2" deep.

And because I don't have an emergency release on my leash, he had to pull the "hooked" area out to avoid being pulled into the Klickitat my me with my kite overhead! But anyways, after a couple hours in the HR ER, he was good to go with 10 stitches. At this time the docs feel pretty good that there is no tendon damage, etc., but he's gotta go see an orthopedic hand doc sometime...

Jeff, Amery, and I got pics/video, so we'll post them later!

Damn dude, sorry to hear that. Heal up quick. At least now you'll have a cool scar to show the ladies and tell them how you wrestled a shark with your bare hands.

Damn Tucker, hope you heal up fast Sad At least it is end of season, and not middle of the summer.

Dr. Nye is the best hand specialist in the PDX area--IMHO. Been around for a long time.

Does your harness not have a handle in the back so people can grab on? How come the leash was used?

That's gnarly. Must have happened after I left, got tired of my wake boots trying to drown me when I crashed...

yeah we had great 7m session late Saturday afternoon. Better enjoy it before we lose it though - train had to blow horn at some guy running down the track from 14 to try and nip across before he had to wait for train to pass. He ended up waiting but train driver will report it so yet another nail in the lyle access coffin. We need some signs up or something......saw some other people go back down the trail out of sight when they saw a train was coming....that's what we all need to do

We always use the leash to tow. Keeps the person (who's usually riding their board) a good ways away from you so there's no board contact, but we normally just clip the leash to the spreader bar (what I thought Tucker had done here). And as far as holding on to my leash attachment, it'd probably be worse. Mine's only a piece of spliced 1/8" AmSteel. Don't think it'd cut ya, but it sure wouldn't be comfortable to hold on to.

Who wants to see pictures? Eat lunch first, I'll post up tonight!

Was the injury due to a "side gated carabiner" type snap shackle?

Here is a link to a thread to discussing the problems with this type of commonly used shackle:

Don't go to this thread if you are squeamish...there is a picture on the first page....although, maybe a picture of Tucker's hand would put this nasty picture to shame.

I helped dress tuckers hand before he went to the ER. The wound looked very similar to the last pic on zilla's link. If that shackle would have snagged a couple of the tendons in the palm of Tucker's hand it could have led to permenant injury.

I bet the safest shackle for the end of your leash (especially if you tow) is the doggy style....if you know what I mean, on the end of a dog leash. It's called a snap hook, Stainless and home depot for 5 bucks
