Hey guys,
Jonah tells me my new Eclipse kite works alot better under proper inflation. Does anyone know if I can just buy a guage to attach to my pump that came with this kite?

I've found some really high quality (and cheap.. < $10) gauge suppliers online before. Wish I had saved the links. But I can't find any suppliers of the "T" junction part that the gauge screws into.
If anyone knows how to get the T junction, I will re-find the good gauges I found before.

Pump gauges are kind of not necessary! Like I tell my students, forget looking at the gauge which does not work that accurately anyway, just pump it until you can't pump it anymore because the pressure won't let you, and your done! I see more than 50% of people's kites on the beach without enough air in them.

I have to strongly disagree with that advice. I used to take this approach on a kite I owned in 2006. I was pumping to 10-11psi to keep the kite as stable as possible in the air (it was known for deforming in high winds, though I'll refrain from brand-bashing and not mention the kite).
Shortly after I started pumping to 10-11psi, the kite had a minor impact with the water and blew the leading edge out. The manufacturer covered it under warranty, but stated that they pump up to a max of 8-9psi.
I also often hear surprisingly experienced kiters suggest that you can just pump up any kite until it makes a "ping" when you flick it with your finger. That also seems like bad advice as kites that I have owned will all ping starting at 6-7psi, but will perform much differently (often better) when inflated as far as 10psi. I think there is a reason that most (if not all) manufacturers specify a PSI in their manuals.

I agree that the common kite-industry gauges are not very high quality and you should also use personal judgement and feel the kite as you pump it. But I have had surprisingly good repeatability with my gauges and so far have not had one that seems mis-read. But since you can buy a high quality industrial gauge for $10, I may do that at some point.

| I typically pump my rev to 8 cause I was worried about the explosion on impact thing. Should I be pumping it up a little more? Any advice from the official SS crew would be appreciated.

My SS gauge needle has started sticking sometimes after like 2 years... and it's a little rusty.
I think spraying in some silicon lube would help tho.

the steering struts on my rooster 7.0
were coming apart from the flex of not enough air
my choice is to pump the little guys really hard (almost as hard as I can )
and my big dogs a little softer
I would imagine that almost any guage would not stand up to the abuse
of kiting

| Inflation pressure differs with the diameter of the blader If anyone tells you to pump all your kites to the same psi it won't work well. Try pumping a large kite like a 17 to 8psi then pump a 5 to 8psi and see how much softer the 5 will be.

Bill Hansen explained the above phenomenon best, by noting that the "stiffness" of a "cylinder" is proportional not to its diameter or even the square of its diameter, but to the "Cube" of its diameter.
Look below for the post on women being bad at math, but having known the above stated fact, for years...
