There are many reasons to stay away from HD--especially for a program shot-to-tape like the Gorge Games. Think if you had over 200+ hours of HD footage to capture, catalog, edit, and archive--- it would take days if not weeks. Tape space is one thing,-- time efficiency and hard drive space is another. Even the processing of simple dissolves and supers takes 4x longer than SD.
HD looks great.. but when you crunch the numbers for most productions, especially long-form productions; HD sucks unless you have the budget to do it live. (Olympics/NFL come to mind) I'm not defending FOX, just being realistic... |

Watching tonights right now, pretty cool kayaking stuff..
Back on the video thing, it just has this super compressed look like its resolution doesn't match the TV or something. Maybe its my TV not dealing well with SD or Comcast doing some crappy compression. |

Yeah they 'screwed the pooch' on the interlacing--looks like crap.
Blame it on the editors. SD + HD + junior editor = FSN.
What you are seeing is an interlacing problem. |

Haven't seen it all yet but what I have seen so far looks great, and I'd say for the most part looks better than what they are broadcasting on national TV |
