Do you think wakesurfers would work? http://www.evogear.com/wake-surfboards/ ... -2008.aspx it's 54" long with one fin, all padded top... has a little rocker. seems like if surf boards work for kiting and skims work for kiting, that this is a hybrid? 200 bucks and I can get hands on at evo in seattle... might be worth a try.
I guess with the fin it couldn't double as an actual skim board when the wind's light though... Last edited by kiterchris on Thu Aug 07, 08 2:11 pm; edited 2 times in total |

I don't see any reason why not, I assumed that a lot of people already rode them, but I'm an ig'nant hick... _________________ Let's go kite. |

Yeah, it def. can be a cheaper option or alternative. I have a LF wakesufer and have used the Hyperlite ones also. Just depends on how much rocker they have...and/or channels... Some have soft rails like a surf and some have super sharp rails like a skim...and then some are right in the middle, so do your research and you should be fine!
go for it...it will get used for sure...
chooch-shouldn't you be looking for work or kiting...?
get off losethestraps.com and do something productive _________________ Shallow Dive Design, 2nd Wind Sports, Airush, Trident Sports |

Read up on surfboard design.
It's all about the shape.
Wakesurfer, skimboard, surfboard, windsurfer---they all use the same elements of hydrodynamics to get specific results.
Channels, concave, V hull, Hydro hull, Chined rails, hard rails, soft rails...one fin, four fin, no fin.
It's all about understanding how it works together.
I am a board whore and we have over 20 laying around. They all ride totally different.
But--they all ride. |

| wakesurfers are a blast, although certain designs are better than others. A friend of mine shapes react wakesurfers http://www.reactsurf.com/boards.html a few of them dont work so well but one of their production boards is magic for me. |

No perfect board. No perfect conditions.
But the 6 foot 6 quad fin 'Y board' that I just got is blowing my mind.
I surfed it on shoulder to head high mush and I was stoked.
Then I put a strap on it and rode in wind that started out really light. The board planed so good in 12mph because it's so flat in the belly.
When the wind stepped up to about 20mph it felt like magic.... carves and surfs insane. Silent ride because it's soft.
To me---if you can surf AND kitesurf on a board then it is closer to ideal than any other. The less weight you have to carry in the kite the better for surf kiting--I think.
As for just paddle surfing. They are all so different. I have boards from 5 foot to 10'2 so they are all just a different experience. |

I ride a hyperlite wakesurfer 4'10", that i bought used for $40.....IT ROCKS! has three 3/4" skegs (removable of course) full foam grip top, sharp edges, and moderate rocker. I almost get the most enjoyment out of it, for pure "$ to fun" ratio.
can get me going in superlight, or still hold a edge when it's nukin. |
