Hi,
I would like to kite in the Gorge. I was just relocate to US (Bay area) and I am experienced kiter. I am kiting in the bayt area in the last month.
I found your website regarding kiting in the Gorge.
I am going to arrive on next weekend or weekend after and I have some questions:
Where is the best spots for kiters in the river?
Can you recomend on near accomodation? I will arrive with my family (5 people) so I would like to find nice place near the kite spot and so the family can have "good time" while I am surfing.
Where I can get weather forecast so I will not drive all the way for nothing (although I heard that in the season 90% wind day)?

Thanks for your help
Erez

Hi Erez,

We have a big kite festival going off this weekend in Stevenson so don't worry if you don't get a lot of info the next couple of days. I'm sure someone will get back to you.

Lots of places to kite in the Gorge from Stevenson in the west end to Rufus way out east. Best bet is probably going to be HR or Stevenson. But there is also the coast, Jones Beach and Sauvie Island. Follow the Spots link at the top of the page.

ikitesurf or windonthewater are your two best bets for forecasts.

Bump this up if you don't have the answers you're looking for by Monday afternoon.

Tony

Hood River has a lot of places to stay and is within walking distance (for the most part) to the sand spit which is one of the main kiting areas in the Gorge. There is also stuff for family's to do in hood river - restaurants and movie theatres and coffee shops. For the wind - go to www.ikitesurf.com - you could pay for a one month subscription to make sure you do not end up driving somewhere with no wind.
