1.5 hours turns into as long as it takes to get you to buy...

take it, then, right after the tour where they sit you down to do the selling part, have your GF/wife get sick... tell the guy you're sorry, but you have to go...
they don't like it, but it works!

Dude, just go watch the ASSPEN episode of Southpark. Seriously, go do it right now! Only then are you qualified to make this decision. My parents got suckered into something like this when we first moved here. We went to Florida and had a pretty good time until my parents show up with a funny look on their face one morning and it turns out my dad bought a damn timeshare. And, he doesn't like buying anything new usually. Those guys are masters at their art and they're scum. Also, living around here it makes absolutely NO sense for you to get a timeshare in Tahoe so maybe if you can concentrate on that you can make it thru. I'd advise against going, but if you really want the free deal and think u can handle it you can try.

There's not really much kiting at Tahoe. The lake is at high elevation (6000-7000ft) making the air thinner and you don't always get a ton of wind there. If you do get lucky with wind then finding a place to launch becomes a problem since there's lots of beach front homes and non-accessible spots. I've heard of one possible but non-ideal place to launch somewhere but can't remember where. I've heard people teach at a smaller lake NE of Tahoe towards Reno called Washoe lake. It supposedly has some shallow water and stuff. Otherwise you've got a lake near Folsom and then Sherman Island near Rio Vista in the Sacramento river delta. Basically none of the spots are super predictable until you get to Sherman Island or the SF bay area. Snow can be good in the winter, but it's crowded and expensive. Considering that we have tons of great mountains around here with a lot fewer people and better prices it doesn't make sense to go there.

gnek is right! cali sucks, there is a shi@t ton of people here, it's expensive, the wind sucks (it might blow at sherman in the bay once in a while), the people are rude, there is nothing to see- no good cities, no good wilderness, did i mention there is never wind in cali.....anywhere, just ask anyone from the OC they will tell you how bad cali sucks...DON'T COME TO CALI!!! you will have no fun whatsoever, stay in the gorge, do yourself a favor.

someone needs a trip to the eastern sierras. LOL I have to agree with you though, I stayed in San Diego for awhile when I was on a climbing sabbatical. The weather was HOT and boring, the people were super shallow and materialistic, and traffic was out of control. I am planning on moving to California when the big earthquake hits and half of falls into the sea. Very Happy
