Can I put a 15m LE bladder in a 12m kite? The seller, on Craigs list seems to think so, but I'm asking since they might have no idea. The bladder's are $60, which seems good to me.

Just me but there's a few things I don't mess around with. My kite's floatation is one, my lines and trim tackle are another. If it is the few extra bucks to get a replacement bladder or part, I'd consider spending it vs. cheaping out. You never know what kind of day you are out and things go wrong. That being said, a bladder can size down, just gently stuff the remaining length in the kite tip ends of the sleeve (don't roll them, just back fold them).

If it's a one pump type bladder it might be pretty difficult to get the valves to line up. If it's not, it should be OK. The best way to secure the extra length is to invert the bladder ends. Airtime's website shows how to do this...

One negative will be the extra weight of the bladder compared to the proper bladder. the doubled over ends will increase weight at the wingtips, which will increase your rotational moment of inertia, slowing the turning speed of the kite. Will it be a noticeable difference? I really don't know. Probably not. It would make an interesting experiment to clip weights, equal to the difference, to a kite's wingtips. Fly it back to back with and without the weights. Same experiment might show the difference Airtime's new bladders would make...

i have used a lot of mismatched bladders in the past. the biggest was a 13 meter bladder in a 7 meter kite (one pump) and everything worked fine. If anything its actually much easier to install a oversized bladder as theres slack in the material that allows you to get everything in place. yea its going to weigh a little bit more but i really couldnt tell the differience. a 15 meter in a 12 is totaly reasonable.
