The Usual Suspects on Top

The 3rd night of the Cabrinha Race Series saw the riders continue to become more competitive. The usual top three, Chavez, Richman and Kafka are now regularly joined by Gomes, and Headington, along with Wasson. Then there is a gap and about 10 racers are battling it out for the next spots, with another gap and the remaining field very competitive with each other. There is close racing all throughout the course. Just prior to racing, the winds were from 28-35 and at race time had dropped to 22-30 and continuing to drop to 20-25. Racers were on 9s-11s.

Overall, for the night, Chavez (Naish) was first with 4 points (1,2,1), Richman(WainmanHawaii) was second with 5 points (2,1,2), followed by Kafka (Cabrinha) with 9 points (3,3,3).

The first race saw Chavez jump out to a 20 second lead at the windward mark and hold the lead for the rest of the race. Kafka overstood the lay line and needed to kite off the wind to get to the mark rounding with Richman foolwed by Chip about a 1/2 min behind. Richman fell just before the leeward mark and saw Kafka pass him, but caught and passed Kafka before the finish.

The second race saw Chavez, Richman and Kafka round the windward mark together. After rounding the mark, Chavez fell but remained ahead of Kafka. Just before the leeward mark, Chavez dumped his kite and was passed by Kafka. Richman finished first, with Chavez catching Kafka at the finsh for second, and Kafka third.Insert

The third race was a little different. Richman was first to the windward mark followed by Chavez, then D. Parker, Chip, Due and then Kafka. On the downwind leg, Kafka went outside, while everyone else went inside…and at the leeward mark it was Richman, Richman, Chavez, Kafka, Parker and Chip with Chavez catching Richman at the finish, followed by Kafka.

In the first Mini Series…the leaders with one race to go are: Chavez (4pts), Richman (6pts), Kafka (14pts) Due (Cabrinha-22pts), Parker (North-26pts). These scores do not include a throw out which will happen after the fourth race June 19. In the hunt (after a throwout) will be Wasson (Ozone), Gomes (Cabrinha) and Headington (SS).

The Cabrinha Race Series is sponsored by Cabrinha, Ozonetravel, Adventure Sport Miami, and hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club.
