Yesterday around 6:30pm I was issued a warning card on my window for parking in the loading and unloading zone for more than 10 minutes. My van had it's back hatch open and the park was practically empty at this hour. I had clearly over stayed the 10 minute allotted but many of us do and habitually park there for extended time especially when the park is empty .

I was never more than 20 feet away from the van during my stay to help a friend rig and de-rig his sail. While I was not looking, Dan the host, managed slipped a printed note onto my windshield that threatened to take away my paid privilege at the site.

Seems rather unnecessary where a simple word would have gotten me out of there...or a little common sense that says: "Park is empty, why enforce the 10 minute rule?"

Is it just me or are there others who have also had abrasive problems with Dan the Host of Event Site?

I was told that they were towing people on saturday. Don't know if its true or not but that seemed a bit agro to me.

maybe someone was just looking for something to do?

I'm guessing the park host is overworked and underpaid? It sounds to me like a warning card is actually a decent way to remind people of the rules. I don't know Dan, but to me it sounds like he's getting a bad rap. After all, "enforcing" the rules would mean giving a ticket and calling the tow company, and unless the card was hand written, I doubt that he is the one who worded it.

what would the issue be with parking where and when you are supposed to?
let the guy do his job, and respect the rules outlined by the port. break the rules, but dont whine about the consequences or give a guy shit for doing his job...

Jack is right on. Don't be a kook...obey the simple rules and everybody has a nice day. Ragging on the guy doing his job is hopelessly immature.

What's the event site and why are people still using it? Haven't they heard of the awesome gravel parking lot at the spit?

Last year a ton of people would park in the 10min. zone and just stay there. 10 min. is 10 min.
Dan is a very cool guy taking lost and found gear and keeping it for both kiters and poledancers.

It's tough to patrol the lot and I bet he gets shit from a variety of peckerwoods so don't be one.

Follow the rules.

I didn't know there was a ten minute rule. I have been harassed just stopping to load gear, during a race where we pay the Port to use their little spot. I didn't know I had a whole ten minutes. (Ive got about a hundred pounds of formula crap.)The Port guy want me to leave now, said it was a fire lane.
That goose poop might ignite. You just never know.
The new no no no no signs for kiters are a nice warm Port welcome don't you think.

PostTue Jun 17, 08 6:54 pm    No doubt gear is heavy! Reply with quote

My idea would be to do a quick Chinese fire drill with the gear. Stop car, 1 min., get out gear and dump on load area-6 min., park car, done!!

I don't pump up any of kite stuff, lay out my lines, or any such rule violation. I have done the emergency oh shit my kite is deflating landing a the spit in early may, but that is it.

I'll bet you money that he has been talked to about this issue by the Fire Marshall. He's a cool guy and will save your lost crap if you lose it. He keeps the bathrooms stoked with paper for your bum unit, he deals more things than I would and that's for sure.

You may want to consider switching to kiting because the gear is lighter, smaller and we need more guys with bald spots hanging from strings!

Very Happy

Seem the point of the original poster is that this was done after hours when the Event Site was empty. This whole discussion and could be avoided by the "host" acted like a host.

So if no one is on road I should be able to break the rules and drive as fast as I want? Thats not the way it works, there is allways a way to rationalize why " I should get to break the rule " Hey there are 5 Handicap spots available, you cant give me a ticket for parking there Smile

Amen brother!

Oh, and I can break any rules I want because I'm better than everyone and rules are meant to be broken. Any further questions?

I've talked to the guy on and off the water, and I have no problem calling the guy a Jackass. Yep, he's a Jackass

When was the last time you drove 55mph on the highway? And when you are going 65mph, maybe this guy Dan will record your tag and when he sees you at a rest stop, leave a little message on your windshield.

By the way, I've also met with this guy on land and water and he's not a jackass........he's a MAJOR jackass!
