The western coast of Australia gets all of the attention, but the eastern side has so many amazing, untapped spots. I spent 14 days shooting on the Gold Coast last year with CJ Jones, Bri Chmel and Gail Zaccai. Unreal. We kited 10 of the 14 days (could have kited all 14 days), with the most amazing flatwater, surf, point breaks you could imagine. La Ventana is fun, but getting a bit overdone. Oz isn't cheap, but so worth the trip. The Gold Coast is an undiscovered treasure. It's still dominated by surfing, so there aren't many kite crowds. I'm hoping to head back this April, at the tail end of cyclone season in search of big barrels. If anyone wants any info on Gold Coast kiting, drop me a pm. Enjoy the sunshine . . .

Gail Zaccai was the last one on the water, butter on the inside at Byron Bay. Actor Russel Crowe lives near by in this little spot. Beautiful beach, amazing flat water with a point break. Bri Chmel lists it as one of her favorite place in the world to kite

Bri earned a cover off this shoot, and well deserved. It was the first unhooked, action girls' kite cover ever...yeah!..this girl goes for it on every session. You have to give her props for riding hard.

Is she still kiting as hard or has she focused on wake skating?

We did a ton of lifestyle shooting too. CJ Jones is not only an awesome kiter, but a great person as well. I was the lucky guy that got to shoot the three girls at a waterfall...the results were spectacular. Even my wife thought they were great..whew..

Yes, yes..CJ is taken. Gene is actually her fiance, and one hell of a kiter. Awesome ink with Surfer's Paradise in the background. Both are awesome people and kiters. They do private tours on the Gold Coast if interested, and they know every spot. You can hit flatwater, surf and even kite with dolphins. We missed that opportunity due to some burly waves. I damn near drowned with my camera. Hopefully we will head back to that spot this time around and find good sun..

Mark:
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah..breezy is in Florida and is really into wakeskating right now. I don't think she has given up kiting at all. I brought two custom surfboards down to Oz, and shortly after she picked up her wakeskate. I think she is just into a lot of strapless schtuff right now..

It's not kiting, but what an amazing bird...I have this printed and I always think of warm tropics whenever I take a look...it is simply paradise.

We were done on the beach and Bri noticed this pond set back a bit. We had killer light, and she said she could ride...it was pretty tight without much room, but she got two passes in before the light went down and she nailed one of her signature raley's..

Simple. I looked down the beach as Gail was walking back...In this case the big lens made this shot. 600 f/4, super clean backdrop. I just like it because it's calm.

Remember the first time you saw a kite? This little boy couldn't resist himself and ran down the beach to check out the kites. Gail launched nice and gently as he stood there in disbelief..gotta love kids..50 bucks says this kid will be a kiter Very Happy
