Sony makes a stock waterhousing for their stock camcorder, but they don't make one that allows room for the wide angle adapter lens I plan on using on my new HC7 HD cam.
So I designed and machined this housing over the past week. Here is the final product. I just finished the final water test and it looks like everything is holding together just fine.
Here's some images of the "stringycam" housing. double O rings because I want to be sure. coming to a kite beach near you this spring...

Did you start with the stock unit and modify it? Looks like it is molded to the camera.
Nice work, all around |

I actually took my camcorder with the wide angle adaptor and measured the dimensions and "drew" it in CAD. Once I determined the design, I machined this from a solid block of plastic. There is a hole machined on one end for the glass and the other end has a machined acrylic window with integrated clamp hooks. The majority of my time was actually spent coming up with a solution to the REC ON/OFF plunger control and how to seal it adequately.
I'm pretty happy with the outcome, but the next one will be slightly different. I'll use it for a while and then determine what improvements need to be implemented.
This camera housing is intended for up close and personal footage, because the wide angle works best for close up and the zoom feature is inoperable.
Now who wants to be filmed? _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

Looks like you need an NP-FH70 battery too. The 40 sucks on my cam... 65 mins tops.
P.S. - What wide angle are you running?
P.P.S. - What program do you use to convert or build your CAD file? Mastercam? |
