Hmmm, perhaps we should trim the bushes, then come back and plant ferns and watch them die, then rip the original bushes out, but keep them damp in case we want to put them back, which we will the following year (after trimming them of course)
Then we can put bird netting on them and build a large pvc cage as well. Finally, we'll decide that they really do need to go and then on the day that they are slated to get removed, the stern wheeler captain passes out and slams into the launch and obliterates it.
Forest, didn't you know that you can smoke false indigo? |

All the tree hugging conservationists are about to make me vomit. Oh, please dont remove the vegetation, it's holding the community and the world together. Without it the whole hillside will slide into the river.... Let's just trim them. Please keep them alive or replace them with something!
Give me a #%@!*ng break! The launch would be much better without the crap in the way! Period!
And NEWS FLASH! With a retainer, you would'nt even need a permit... You are retaining already existing soil. I guess there are those that dont want anyone else at their personal stash. Rediculous!
With the growth of the sport and contestants at the events that are held there, the bushes need to go folks! |

Finally someone came out and said it.
Yeah, Stevenson is a totally hidden spot that is kept secret and mysterious because there are sharp rocks and bushes at the launch. If we did anything to improve the launch, people will storm down from the hills and flood the launch. Those bushes are preventing the site from becoming crowded!
Stevenson will never be a beginners launch, there is no shallow area and the set up area is intimidating to allot of people. Bbladder is right, the launch WOULD be better without them. |

This forum is a great resource, but we should be careful not to believe it represents the sole voice of “Kiteboarding” in the NW. From a broader context the Stevenson launch is not just a Kiteboarding spot, it is a public space enjoyed by many. As Kiteboarders we sometimes lose sight of this. Do we ever consider what the people from the tour boats or life long tax paying residents of Stevenson want? Do they want to be accosted by friendly slobbering dogs, exposed to rants of profanity, or feel like they are at a rave? Maybe they do, maybe they don’t? Did anyone ever think to ask?
I am all for “maintaining” the launch and greatly appreciate the work others have done in this regard. Any changes ought to take all users into consideration not just Kiteboarders.
Trim the bushes, but leave decisions regarding changes to the public process (it sounds like we now have an advocate in city government). If we want to get a true feel for what Kiteboarders would like at Stevenson, circulate a petition at the launch this summer then present it to the port. |

Thanks for all your input. Remember this is just a poll of the forum users. Many other factors will be considered.
Look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday at the clean up.

Yeah, I kinda think Bust'n Bladder has a point....
So when do we decide to cut down them trees around the bend, just east of the launch...I'm sure we all might enjoy a few extra feet of flat water.... |

Wally, I just read through this whole thread and can't find any tree hugging going on. Apparently, wanting to leave things as they are is extremist? |

Ethan, nice spin and what do I know, I was just one of the lucky considerate souls that got to see the start of the Blow Out from a perfectly fresh launch from that perfect luanch site. Just a total launch cluster! So ya start a poll like this and ya get to see who wants the change or who wants to protect the private stash. The great lengths to save the plants Ethan is quite frankly, tree huggish..... Needed to hold the hillside.... Replace with more plants... Roger! |

We can transplant the plants to my front yard. We can call the relocation the "Trail of Shears" |

I’m in favor of replacing the shrubs with “low lying” ingenious plants that will protect the bank from erosion.
I must admit that I haven’t read through the entire thread… Curious if there a “funding” method for purchasing the ingenious plants?? (I.e. The Port? Tony??)

Locking this thread because Mark wanted to close the poll. Plz start a new thread one if there are more questions (or use Stevenson cleanup thread.)
The final was:
Should we keep the shrubs (at the bottom of the hill) at Stevenson?
