My long quest to try snowkiting ended yesterday with a victorius assault on Dalles Mountain! Accompanied by the Broadbandito with recon help from Sella, the day was a big success!

Seems like the stars have to align just right for this spot. U need enough snow to cover the terrain, but not too much to make the road hairball. The view is a treat--on snowy faces looking right down on the river--not too many places in world like that.

Oh I forgot to ask. How was the road up there? Easy to make or was the snow deep?

The snow was not deep on the road but there were icy spots and big muddy areas.

The roadbed is gravel/mud and in good shape overall, but it would probably be smart to be prepared with 4WD, tire chains, and a shovel. I doubt WSDOT plows every time a few inches accumulates.

No special effects were used!

It's kind of like landboarding in that way...feels like your hauling but looks slow in the playback. Broadband was about right on his 7M. I had a 4M foil that was enough to pull me around but made it kind of hard work.

Wind was real steady in the 20-25 range. Next time I'm riggin big!

You should understand that this is a sport in its beginning stages and anyone who is getting out at all, and nailin any snowkite spots is bad ass, even if it is not prime conditions, still pushing the sport. Be supportive!! Cool

It was Friday afternoon. It was sweet to have some sun--luckily the clouds mostly stayed about 1/2 mile West! Looks like you got it, too. Cool

I was in slo-mo, not an illusion. First day kiteboarding, avoiding rocks, barbed wire, powerlines, balls of steel were more like tin alloy caught on film at the beginning of the sesh. Oh and while I'm making excuses I should note I was fighting a little intestinal bug and had to squat a cow pie out in the ice wind before launching. SO glad I had some TP in my board bag! Shocked
