Sun Jun 28, 20 4:03 pm Kite tear on Event Site signs |

I was headed out to the sandbar today with my kite when I failed to give the Port Authority sign near the bushes enough space. My wingtip caught on the sign and tore the canopy. A friend says this has happened to several people this season. Can anyone confirm?

Self-caused harm to your gear. It happens and learn from the experience.
Take it to Airtime or the Dangler or go purchase some sail repair tape and patch that thing up yourself (short-term fix).
The Port has bigger fish to fry than dealing (and spending money) with a replacement of a totally functional sign and well placed sign. If the sign is farther away people can't see it or won't pay attention to it.

Yeah you're not alone. Seems like about one out of every five kiter needs to try to land there kite in the dunes on the coast. I'd take your repair any day over 50 pin holes in the Leading Edge from the dune grass. I have also laid my kite in the bag down on a crack in the concrete that I didn't see freaking cactus sticking up through. Dunegrass, cactus, signs, and broken glass are all put out there to get us.
My question to you is, were you using a different lengths line than normal? Or do you use multiple length lines for different size kites? That used to throw me off until I stopped changing line lengths for different size kites. Only having to judge one line length eliminates a lot of the "woopses".

Hey Matt V. 50 pinholes! Damn, that sux. I was carrying my kite. It’s an inconvenient reminder to check and avoid hazards.
A friend suggested that the sign has been a PITA for many kiters, hence the reason for my post. I’ve got the repair under control.

Ripped my kite on same sign. It also appears the sunbathers can't read good (:
