What’s the latest on Oregon beach closures? Where can you kite? Is Manzanita beach closed for kiting? Cannon beach? This is assuming no tourist action but living local... |

FYI - You can Never Kite in Cannon Beach.
They have a City ordinance that prohibits kiteboarding in city limits. |

Funny. i've kited CB probably 15-20 times over the last 10 years with no problems. I even had the lifeguards give me a ride back up to my launch once when the wind died. You just need to know where the rocks live!
You got me though. I searched the municipal code and couldn't find it. Either enlighten me or I'll just chalk this up to localism. |

This is what I have been shown by city officials.
I know for a fact that the police dept will enforce it
Especially now.

D. It is a violation of the Cannon Beach Municipal Code to launch, use or occupy a nonmotorized watercraft or flotation device from the shore of the Pacific Ocean in Cannon Beach without a permit issued by the police department of the city.
E. Nonmotorized watercraft and flotation devices include but are not limited to:
1. Sail or wind propelled boats, kayaks, canoes, and surfboards |

I had no idea. I'm most surprised by no surfing allowed- lame!. I guess I've either been lucky or they just chose not to enforce it on those cold, windy days. Manzo is better wind in the summer anyways. Thanks for the heads up.

This is right from the news release from Oregon State Parks and Beaches:
What about beaches?
This decision doesn’t currently affect the ocean shore, but it does close all state park-managed parking lots and beach accesses. We have the authority to close the beach temporarily for health reasons. If people don’t get the message that clumping up and overwhelming local areas is a bad idea, we’ll have to revisit the decision to leave all beaches open.
Thus, it is very important to not be crowding and congregating on the ocean shores right now. Not only is it necessary to prevent transmission of the virus, but also to prevent closure of what beaches can still be accessed which is limited by the Parks being closed. |

I guess it’s ok to golf???? Go figure! What’s that all about? Oh yea lots of congressman like to golf. Nobody congregates when golfing????? We need to rethink using science not a reaction to feelings. |

California explicitly listed kiteboarding as an approved activity. https://www.sfgate.com/news/editorspicks/article/California-outdoor-activities-allowed-stay-home-15238108.php
"The governor noted the state has released a new list of activities allowed on its COVID19.ca.gov website, and we've posted it below. All of these activities are allowed as long as they're done only with members of your household and if you maintain a distance of six feet from others.
...
-- Jogging and running
-- Kite boarding and kitesurfing
-- Meditation
...
"
Hopefully Oregon does the same. |
