Anyone done the drive to the epic wave spot at San Carlos in Baja? If so what was your experience with the last section of the road? Would a Subaru Forester survive the last 40 miles of unpaved road or can that road get too washed out after rain for a Subaru to traverse? I've heard it's currently in a really good condition (potentially the best it's ever been), but am not sure how long it'll stay that way.
Thanks for the heads up. |

My friends took a 30' motorhome down there last June. Took a while, but no big problems.
I'm guessing a Forester will do fine. |

oh the memories, Slither and I made the trek in a 89 subaru loyale about 10 years ago. One of us had to get out a few times to keep from bottoming but other than that it worked fine. |

No problem, just drive slow. ANd Take your JB Weld Industrio!
Expect it to take 3 hrs to get from M1 to the fish camp. Sharp rocks and fast driving end up with flat tires. Somehow I know this.
There are a few sections that get bad, but typically a Y's around them.
I remember seeing a celica there one year.
I had cell phone all the way to El Rosario (call your company) internet was there but I didn't set that up.
If you leave San Diego at dawn, you should be able to make it all the way in one day.
During the holiday's the roads were great and I didn't mind driving at night in Baja Norte.
El Rosario is also a great place to get your supplies, fresh avacados, limes, water, gas and ice.
If you are interested, I used a fridgefreeze on our last trip. Did not buy ANY ice the whole three week trip in Baja and was on SOLAR power. Fridge would hit 24 degrees and the beer was cold cold cold. Used it to freeze ice for the now out dated cooler. I highly recommend these.
When are you going to be there? It starts getting pretty windy come May.
Have a great Time.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like if I take it easy it should be OK. We're actually heading down from San Francisco on the 23rd in just over a week. We'll be in San Carlos for about a week. Hopefully we'll catch some wind and waves Spring break Baja style! |

Thanks for the tip on the Fridge/freeze
Seems good for remote camping
How big a panel do you need to keep up with the freeze setting ?

Sweet movie! I like how the windsurfer gets taken out by the wave at the end. He was having such a good ride too...
From the video it looks like a fairly standard Baja dirt road. OK for most sections with a surprise lurking around every turn. I hope we see some white caps when we get there |

I use a 60 watt panel, it is portable as such that it is mounted in a hinged metal container that folds in half. The key is a very good deep cell battery, these will kill a battery that have any weak cells.
They are solid and I will show it off to anyone when I hit the beach, or if in Hood River give me a PM and I'll show personally.
San Carlos should be great for kiting at that time as well.

What brand or model panel are you using?? I just bought a new set for my travel trailer but think I went too cheap! We'll find out this spring at Rufus I guess if it can't recoup the battery after a day of use.

Haha, Strongbad is awesome! Takes me back. Maybe we'll bring the Burninator with us to protect us from El Chupacabra |
