This is the sh*t we had to kite in today over here in Maui! Sucks when the wind is this steady from morning through into darkness being so used to our favorite Gorge winds. Wink Plenty to go around and is still blowing well after dark. Kim and I and our new Seattle friend Mike S. ran an 8 or more mile down-winder from Wailea to North Kihei.

More South Kona's to blow tomorrow! Very Happy

same here on Oahu. While people were busy kiting in relatively marginal winds in Waikiki, I went over to Hawaii Kai, where the wind is usually a little stronger on Kona days.... The direction was clean south, which is rare....even for Kona winds that are usually South West of some sort. This lead to us being able to ride along the south side inside the reef, in completely flat water, between 3 feet and maybe 6 inches......mostly reef, but also some sandy places.

You guys might be used to to flat water, but here that is rare. I was super powered on my 12 Shockwave having a blast jumping around. Hanging for ever.

Who the hell needs drugs when we have kiting...I am still high from that session.

Tomorrow there is a South Swell coming in, so if the wind holds, it means surfboard!!!! Yay.

Anyhoo...sorry for taking your time..I am just so stoked.

I think the Kona wind sessions were my favorite on my trip to Maui. They were lighter but much steadier than the NE winds.

Looks like Teague scored strong + steady. Sweet. Thumb's Up

Now that's perfect. Maybe a little bit of a dumb question, but do you need a shortie/ thin wetsuit or are trunks workin this time of year. - C

The highs have been 82-86F and the water temp is 74F. I'm just in trunks and a UV shirt with no probs staying warm. Very Happy

Just got back last night Sad Did not want to leave Maui! Big thanks to Teague and Kim for babysitting the beginner... Had a great time on the downwinder! Went to kite beach a few days later and stayed up wind the whole time..got mucho sunburn, and it was completely worth it!

Wind varied alot, both in strength and direction, but when I did get out, had a great time. Looking forward to kiting here in Seattle...

Very Happy Mike!

Kim and I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know you guys and kiting with you! Thanks so much for having us over at your water-side digs for drinks! We look forward to hooking up with you guys when we get back for some kiting and hanging out. We are holding down the fort for you over here though as it has been blowing each day now. Really good winds yesterday.

See you when we get back!

Teague & Kim

So I had a friend that lives in Oahu call me today and he is offering to pay my way there if I help him landscape his yard. So I'm wondering when would be a good time to catch some wind? I cannot kite for at least two more months due to an ACL surgery I had in January. So we're looking at late May or June at the earliest. Is the summer an ok time to kite or should I stall him until later in the year?

Andy, Not sure about Oahu, but I was told by a local that maui is great in May.

I had pretty good luck one week in April a couple of years ago, 4 days on the water out of 7. I think it just keeps getting better the closer to summer you get.

For consistent wind on Oahu...summer is definitely the best. Even get some waves still at Moks. Kailua can be fun too...but the beach can get overcrowded with clueless tourists. Late May or early June should be good Smile
