was at stevenson today and was wondering why the camera wasn't working. it looks like it has apparently broken free on its mount. not knowing who to contact, I went to the website that hosts the camera page and sent them an email.
if anyone knows who the appropriate person to discuss repairing or possibly replacing it, please either contact them or tell me who to contact.
its just hanging by the wires at the moment.
would be cool to have a camera working there again so we can see when all the snow has melted from the launch area!

Mon Mar 18, 19 3:47 pm What can we do to get it fixed? |

Been down to Stevenson a couple times this past week, but haven’t launched for lack of support. I’m not comfortable with a self launch at this location. ( and skill level)
I think getting the camera up and running would bring out more kiters. It’s nice to see when there are kiters already at the launch, before making the drive.
I’m wondering who owns the cam, what it needs for repair and if they could use a few bucks to help get it up and running again. I’d be happy to contribute.
This afternoon, a couple windsurfers on 3.7-4.0 were the only guys out. Sunny and warm, but probably still drysuit water temps. Wind was dropping to nice foiling conditions.
Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer and windy.

Yeah, we will need it there with upcoming season. I am willing to chip in few bucks. May not be popular with some guys who don't wanna be seen there but who cares about them. Their wives know anyway..

Last month I spoke with a port employee. He told me Joe, who works for the port, took it down and is making repairs to it. I told him to let any kiters know if they need any funds to help with the repair and we can make it happen

anyone have any tips for getting feed from the Stevenson cam? I think this is the link https://www.visitstevensonwa.com/live-cams/live-kite-cam/ but for me it just shows an image of Blues festival. Sailworks seems to be able to scrape the kite cam and grab an image. It used to stream in real time. I tried multiple browsers and devices but no luck. Anyone know the secret sauce to get a stream from it?

Solution:
Open a Private Window in your browser (Incognito Mode for Chrome users who like being tracked by Google)… this will assure your browser isn’t hanging onto a cached image.
Go directly to the IP address where the jpeg is stored: http://205.162.201.48/record/current.jpg
From what I can tell, the server hangs up a bit when the current.jpg is being overwritten with the new image. If that happens, wait 30 seconds and clear your browser’s cache and re-load.
Once you have the image loaded, you can SOMETIMES refresh the IP address above over and over to get the latest image. Also, I believe the Time Stamp on the image is 30-45min off.
I rarely have issues loading the cam’s image using the steps above.
Note: This method only works if the IP address above doesn’t change.

I've had uninterrupted vicarious kiting for years simply going to the Gorge Web Cams page. It seems to always have a freshness. It's so fresh I can almost hear the conversations between Stringy and Tak. Lonely & bored in Tacoma.
