Fri Sep 14, 18 3:21 pm CGKA - Event Site. We can do better (with corrections) |
|
|
CORRECTION from original posting earlier today due to some unusual confusion with the early re-opening of kite access at the Event Site
Here is what we have been asked to relay out to the community from today's unplanned Re-Opening day for kiters at the Event Site.
Kiters have been reported as launching and landing over spectators, landing on spectators and picnic tables.
We have our agreements and relationships with the Port of Hood River and CGWA where everyone abides to a plan that allows all users equal, balanced access and all we need to do is be courteous of others.
When we get reports of kiters breaking the rules, or acting in an unsafe manner, we are then asked as representatives of the kite community to then attempt to track down and speak politely with users that are breaking the rules.
Ultimately, the actions of the CGKA to negotiate our access can and can be over-ridden by the actions of the kiters who use the beach.
This access comes with responsibility and if we are not responsible, it will no longer exist, either via people being fed up with the kite community, or an insurance injury suit/settlement immediately shutting down all kite access on all port properties.
Let's remember to treat this opportunity as one that we appreciate, respect and want to manage for years to come.
Thank you for your help and support

I showed up at the event site around 2:30. I also thought 15th was the day. A lot off people were launching of the grass. I was talking to someone about it and was informed that the signage said it was open. So I checked out the sign and it said open for launching and landing. There seems to be some miscommunication. I would have spoke up if the sign said it was closed. Hope this can get work out! |

Yup, the beach is open for business.
The Port were short staffed this month and pulled the trigger to reopen early without telling us, so we appologize for the mix up.
But, we still have the big problem with the launching and landing issues of kiters kind of running amuck around outside the launch areas.
I am bummed that we had this communication complication today, as it really affects our credibility with beach users and their feelings about needing to follow the rules we have set.
Hoping that otherwise, everyone had a great session today and moving forward we enter into having a great off-season.
Thank you

Thank you Jon, and others for stepping up to bat when you thought things seemed to be going wrong at the Event Site.
You guys are always our best helpers and protectors of access/stoke!
We apologize for the confusion today. _________________ [b:13763ca0d3]The CGKA is your advocate for Kiteboarding in the Gorge! [i:13763ca0d3] Join now: [/i:13763ca0d3]GorgeKiter.com/join[/b:13763ca0d3] |
