Thu Apr 19, 18 2:59 pm Intel on Odelle lake? |
|
|
My family and I are seriously considering moving to Bend and I’m wondering if Odelle lake is the best, most consistent local kite option? How tight is the actually launch? It it any worse than self launching at Viento?
Is the setup similar to Lake Wenatchee here in Wa where if there is fog or clouds on the coast and it’s clear east of the mountains it blows?
Thanks

Odell Lake is approximately 2 hrs from Florence. My heartfelt advice to you: keep driving westward...

I can tell you that it is a tight launch but the wind is there. It is still a decent trek from Bend, my thoughts are I would rather just drive to the gorge instead.

here's the problem:
Quote: | the best, most consistent local kite option |
There is none. As mentioned previous, search and find the intel. I have posted several times on the lakes surrounding central oregon and what to expect. Wickiup Reservoir is the only place I kite any more. It is not consistent, only good when it is good. And when it's good, you can bet there will be no more than 5 kites on the water. usually it's just 1, me.....

From Bend to Odell: 75min
Bend to Rufus: 140min
For the sure session, go to Rufus. Odell is the best for wind but I have yet to find the motivation to go for it due to unfriendly launches. Like above, I hit up Wickiup on a windy CO day and always bring backup activities. I’ll try to pm you the next time conditions look good for Wickiup. In general, for nw winds hit Wickiup and sw winds hit Crescent.

Finally kited Odell! Foil with a launch from the west end resort’s marina. Not the easiest launch but easy enough with a friend. Beautiful setting

Everybody in Bend kites Rufus, 3 Mile or the Coast (When I say everybody, sure I mean...)

Move to Bend for the Beer, Biking, Reasonably good skiing and the Urban Sprawl, they don't have a monopoly on it, but they are working hard at it.
