Mon Dec 12, 16 8:22 am Puerto Rico Kiteboarding - best season? |
|
|
Where/when is the best spot for an advanced beginner in Puerto Rico? I have a trip planned in January for something else and was going to tack on some kiteboarding, but maybe it's more wave riding then? I'm looking for beginner-friendly flatwater. Is La Paguera any good in January? Anywhere else? Thanks! |

No, Parguera is generally the spot in summertime. Winter is E/NE trades winds. Not sure about a beginner spot - maybe Ocean Park in San Juan or Dorado have enough room to kite on the inside. Definitely stay away from the more advanced spots as you can fuck yourself up royally at the big breaks (mostly due to shallow, jagged reefs and crazy obstacles getting in and out of the water more so than big bombing waves.) |

San Juan itself, on Isla Verde, and some other locales have decent kiting.
Check out http://www.15knots.com/, Juan Carlos is a great guy and happy to give you info and help out with gear.
Look at the 15knots page which has the yearly wind stats from ikitesurf. |

was there a few years ago - wind was lighter than anticipated so take a cpl kites if you can
Isla Verde is a good place BUT keep an eye on your gear - if left alone on the beach it will take a walk QUICKLY
