Fri Aug 05, 16 9:02 pm Shout-out to Mark at Swell for evening rescue! |

I broke a line while kiting and had to self rescue at Swell.
Mark saw me, helped me ashore ,and even gave me a lift back to the Event Site (over the bridge and out of his way!)
Thanks for the help Mark!

Glad you are OK Jim.
The Gorge wind sport community is awesome.
Do you have an idea as to why the line broke? |

Yes, how did the line break? Old set of lines? Knot? Did the line breaking cause any kitemares? Or did the kite just crash.
Mark and most others just being helpful in the time of need. . .
Hopefully you took him out of pizza and beer or at least gave a case of cold ones. |

Good question. I have never had a line break before.
The lines/bar were only ~1.5 years old and the lines otherwise look to be in pretty good shape.
My theory is this: I was riding strapless and it was pretty gusty yesterday. At one point when I came off my board, I was distracted and let a gust take my kite/lines across my board. I felt a brief "pull". Presumably a fin must have a nicked a line. The kite flew fine for about an hour after that before the line broke...
