Remember how selection and adaptation works, we have polar bears because we have arctic regions. If we don't have arctic regions we have brown bears, they are the same thing.

As soon as we get rid of that dam, even if we wait till the sturgeon are all ate up, they will return. That is why I prefer long term thoughtful solutions.

Initially it would not be cheap and the change would be uncomfortable but we have the technology to get by with a lot less dams, maybe not all of them, but most of them for sure.

No, they are not.

Do you understand genetic adaptation and diversity? Pretty clearly not, or you would not make such patently ridiculous statements.

Both of your ideas quoted above are the very definition of a "lazy entitled opinion". Why? Because very obviously you have made absolutely no effort to become informed on the issue, (lazy) and yet you feel entitled to demand others listen to--I'm sorry, but there is no other way to express it--your drivel. Polar bears and brown bears are not even a little bit the same thing. If one species goes extinct, another similar one taking it's place is not the same as the original coming back. If you prefer "long term thoughtful solutions" it is a prerequisite that you give them some thought. And you can't give a solution thought without understanding the problem. And you can't understand the problem without a bit of study--and real world experience in a situation like this.

In point of fact, un-informed opinions like this have resulted in MORE sea lions being killed, not less. When the first couple of sea lions found the free food at Bonneville a few years back, anyone with any relevant knowledge at all knew the solution was to shoot one or two, thereby scaring the others off. But oh no, the ignorant lazy opinions were aghast at such a thought. Instead, the idiots insisted on trapping and relocating the sea lions. I mean, it was obvious--to anyone with a bit of knowledge--just how idiotic this was. As predicted, they just came back. With friends. Once the problem became bad enough, trapping ensued. A number of these trapped seals died accidentally. Now we trap them and euthanize offenders with multiple captures. So, many more sea lions have been killed than if an intelligent solution was followed at first. Even now, God forbid we use those deaths to scare off other seals. Make no mistake, at some point in the future many more sea lions will be killed, because lazy entitled opinions prevent thoughtful, informed, workable solutions now. The longer you ignore a problem, the more involved and painful the solution becomes.

I don't mean to offend you, but I don't know how else to respond to such a forceful, uninformed opinion.

And that is the last I will say on the subject. Everybody go kiting!

yeah saying polar bears and brown bears are the same is totally not understanding natural selection and the process of speciation.

why it's almost as dumb as saying seals and sea lions are the same....only in this case we are talking about a completely different genus....like saying chimps and humans are the same.

Seals and sea lions eat fish. They often swim up freshwater rivers to do so. To expect not to see them at least in some part of the Columbia is to not expect them to be who they are. Is this a problem? Not necessarily. I'm pretty sure humans have done more to harm salmon and sturgeon populations than any other mammals but at this point we may have to put a band aid on it with some man made population control efforts. Or we could just change everything we do about feeding ourselves which would be significantly more difficult.

Get rid of Corporations.

Pay every worker in the world at least a living wage no matter how crazy lazy they may be. Otherwise we have to collectively pay to support them and that is not fair to people working and pulling their weight. Letting people become depressed drug abusers living and begging on the streets is not a solution and costs more than simply paying a fair living wage.

One last thought for all you capitalism shouters. America is not a capitalist society, it is a hybrid of many ism's of which capitalism is but one part.

You are an idiot or completely stoned (probably both) Stalin and Mao would have loved you.

Seals are plentiful. Bullets are cheap. Sell tags to shoot the seals. Generate revenue for saving/enhancing salmon runs. Give the seal meat to the hungry.

If smelly dead seals ward off other seals, lash a few floaters to a piling towards the mouth of the Columbia.
