So has anyone ever done a dw'er from EV to Moiser?
Not that I plan on doing one anytime soon as the water after the bridge is just chop; I've got to have some swell mixed in...
I suspect there are plenty of holey/wind shadowed areas, ships, drone fly-bys/testing, and change in wind strength. The appealing thing to me is amount of uncrowded water.
It actually is one I probably would never do, except once maybe just to say I did it. Viento to EV is just fine w/me, except of course the crowds. |

I do Bingen to Mosier and if it's filled in solid enough sometimes down to Lyle. The bend out of Mosier can be sketchy. _________________ "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence" ~Xenocrates

The wind behind the bridge is a swirly mess and you're lucky if you keep your kite in the air. If you drop it the current will wrap you around a bridge pillar likely too. Plus there's the risk of tangling your kite on the bridge as you dip under.
It's a risky proposition that could end poorly. _________________ Windance Boardshop- Hood River

"The Gorge, USA: Stevenson to Rufus
Distance: 100+ km Season: June - September
The Columbia River Gorge, famous for its strong, predictable winds that travel through a river canyon for over 100km is surrounded by picturesque mountains on the west end of The Gorge and eventually funnels into a warm desert-like setting. It’s this temperature change that sucks the air through the high canyon walls and produces daily winds in excess of 30 knots, making it perfect for a full day, long distance downwinder.
Begin the voyage from Stevenson and travel 17 miles through a remote mountainous corridor to Hood River, America’s birthplace of kiteboarding. Continue riding east where the landscape transitions from forest to dry desert hills. This downwinder can be done all at once on a perfect wind day or may be more fun if broken into chunks."
Might want to pre-scout the salmon ladder though... |

A couple of Mosier locals turned me on to the DW but with numerous warnings and gave me a lengthy checklist of conditions to look for and things to watch out for. It's definitely not crowded and that starts to creep in to your mind when the wind gets flukie and your start thinking it would be nice if someone else knew you were out there. _________________ "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence" ~Xenocrates
