Tue Apr 12, 16 11:10 am Seal Sighting off the Event Site |
|
|
Kiting Monday April 11th, I spotted a seal in the water halfway between the Event Site and the WS Bridge. How did a seal get past the Cascade Locks Dam? That can not be good for the salmon and no...it was not a log. |

A seal knocked a father and son off their jet ski a couple days ago in the willamette. We had to respond for a capsized vessel with victims. Fisherman go to then before the seal returned to snack on them:-)!! _________________ Take a breath; inhale |

It should be open season above the dam with no license. Save the Salmon and all....
I have enjoyed seal meat. It does not taste like chicken. |

Not just the salmon they're killing. I videoed one last year killing a 6 foot sturgeon. According to other boaters in the area, it was the seal's third one that day.
The current policy on the sea lions is beyond stupid. Even when they finally kill one, they trap it and "euthanize" it far from the water. If they just shot the damn thing and let the body drift downsteam, other seals would be repelled by the smell of dead sea lion.
Do be wary of them. That seal I filmed last year charged my boat. Funny, in a 20 foot boat. Not so funny SUPing, swimming or body dragging... They are starting to get very territorial in the Columbia. They won't eat you obviously, but they could tear an artery if they decided to chase you off, and you could bleed out before you got help. |

I would think the amount of water traffic at the ES would keep them away. guess not. |

Great, I moved here to get away from the sharks in the ocean, and now you're telling me there are killer attack seals in the river. |

When my dad was young(he's 73 now) there was a bounty on seals and sea lions in Washington. i recall him saying you had to retrieve them quick because they sank. To get your bounty they would have to turn in their nose, not the whole carcass.
I've seen them hanging out at The Dalles Marina. |
