I am new to the sport and was wondering is there are any other places to buy kites and such in Portland. I went to All Surf Indusry last week and the guy that "helped" me was kind of an arrogant prick. I know I am new and all but geez, what is up with the attitude? All the people I ahve met at the beaches have been very cool.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps the guy had a hangover. . .? There was a post on this site late '06 that said ASI was for sale. . .

Lots of stores in Hood River, but if you want to shop local and want another store to browse around and compare attitutes and prices, try Gorge Preformance close to the Sellwood bridge at about Macadam and Taylors Ferry in SW PDX.

There is also PacWave down in Warrington/Astoria; ask for Ben.

My two cents is go for the newest stuff and don't piece meal it; it wouldn't hurt to "quit your day job" too; for max progession.

I'm not sure of the guys name but he was on the shorter side. I should have known as when I called the shop earlier in the week the guy who answered the phone could barely speak english, or at least I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying to me. I like buying local and all but I shouldn't be made to feel like its a gd privelage.

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to see what Gorge performance or HR has to offer.

yeah, as a new kiter you'll like the roominess and steady winds of the coast. Ben at Pac Wave and Josh at Cleanline can help you out...and they do lessons too. (and no Tude!)

go to Gorge Performance on Mcaddam, no attitudes there whatsoever. Bob is a great guy and his kite guy (forgot his name) is very helpful

I have had great experiences with ASI. I always seem to get great deals and everyone I deal with knows the products inside out. I bought a used Cabrinha 16 M Switchblade and from them...no sign of previous use at all perfect shape. All the other items I have purchased from them have been great...I will never hesitate to shop there.

Don't give up on ASI - the folks who work there and who have worked there are some of the best - Tak, Amery, Nate, Tucker...

Randal Graves: You'd feel a Hell of a lot better if you'd just rip into the occasional customer.
