Tue Feb 10, 15 10:20 am Spring is here! |

Wednesday and Friday look like good East wind days at Stevenson but Saturday actually looks like west wind in Hood River! Water is cold but air should be over 50, I have a drysuit in the classifieds if someone wants to demo. Here's Temira's forecast:
Gorge Wind
There's a bit of west gradient this morning, enough that we should see westerlies at 12-15 through the whole Gorge this morning, fading to 5-10 or less this afternoon. Tomorrow looks like east 35-45. Expect light and variable wind on Thursday and E 30-40 on Friday. Looking way ahead, high pressure builds off the coast on Saturday for the potential for W 23-26, strongest near Hood River with N 20-25 at the central coast and N 30-35 at the south coast. Hmmm.... |

Hi, how about ponds at Fort Stevens do you know what's the water temp. out there. I only have a 5/3 wetsuit but I could really use a session this weekend to relax? _________________ My pictures of the beautiful PNW

I was out a week ago on an east wind and it seemed colder than the ocean but definitely warmer than the river. I'd say 50 degrees. I didn't need gloves but wore my hood. I hit it on high tide and the island sandbar was over 4' deep. Plenty of sand to launch from even at high tide |

I kited the ponds Sunday in my drysuit with 1.5 mm gloves, it was chilly however there were several wet-suit kiters.
Shipwreck was much warmer Saturday. Last edited by Johnb on Fri Feb 13, 15 2:48 pm; edited 1 time in total |

This is tempting I'll need to grab a hoodie though and probably one more layer under the wetsuit. Btw. do you have any good directions to the ponds? - i've never been there before - could someone maybe drop a pin on the best parking spot for the ponds on google maps and drop the location or screenshot in this topic or on PM _________________ My pictures of the beautiful PNW

Ft. Stevens ponds seems to be the place for Sunday with the wind shifting offshore. What about the tides? How soon after high tide (around 930a on sunday) does the water disappear to the point where it's not kiteable? |

Low tide is not until 5 PM - it is going out slow Sunday. Kiting midday should work just fine. Even if you hit low tide - just kite out on the point. Just make sure not to go past the north tip of the point. You don't want to risk being pulled out to the Columbia bar if something breaks down. |

heres a site for water temps: http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/npac.html
Currently looks like the ocean is 54ish, upper river 42, and Astoria 46. I think incoming tide at Lot D should be 50ish. I couldn't touch the island's sandbar at high tide, maybe it's deeper this year. Ikitesurf shows kite able east wind both sunday and monday but I wouldn't go if corbett isn't at least 30 around 9am |
