Fri Aug 22, 14 11:51 am CGKA - low water notice for Saturday |
|
|
Just an FYI for kites launching from the Sandbar, Wunderbar or Fightclub launches.
The Corp of Engineers will be lowering the water levels in the Corridor section of the Columbia River (between Stevenson and The Dalles) on Saturday to allow for the Gorge Commission and the CGKA to better accomplish their beach/river clean up efforts at the mouth of the White Salmon River.
This means that the Sandbar will likely be pretty damn big and the waters in front of the Event Site and along the western edge of the Sandbar will be very, very shallow and exposing sandbars/logs that were previously hidden or out of sight.
Kite with your brain turned on this weekend and have fun.

I saw some logs at the ES sandbar today that are just below the surface and angled; they could really ruin someone's day. Careful out there!

hey kiters, this past spring, I had some masts break off of my early foil board prototypes in front of the sandbar.
was thinking about breaking out the snorkel gear for tomorrow....
anyhow, be careful where you step in the now shallow water. don't cut yourself on the hydrofoil wings. sorry for leaving them there. they didn't float very well LOL

Fri Aug 22, 14 8:41 pm Wunderbar Changes? |

I'm interested to see how much of the Wunderbar is exposed when the water gets really low.
There has been lots of beach along the shore this summer but not much of a sandbar (or islands) sticking out in the river like we had a couple of years ago.
