Ok so I have no idea how these things work (forums); or even if they do.
I live in the Portland area have a lot of experience in and on the water but just never tried Kite boarding. I don't make it to the coast as often as I would like but still need to get in the water. Is there someone on here that can direct me to a person or business in the area that can provide lessons?? Most of what I've found are lessons in Hood River; while that is great and all I'd like to find something more local. Maybe after work scenario would work? I don't know, still trying to establish whether or not there are any locals out there maybe willing to do private lessons. Thanks for your time and hopefully see you on the water soon!

Chok Dee.

Welcome to the forum!

In order to do kite lessons, you need wind. Unfortunately, Portland doesn't have any. You will have to go to the Gorge, Jones beach or the coast to take lessons.

Get er done now while the water is warm and the wind is great!

see you on the water.

HR- cascade kiteboarding- Tonia is top notch

Jones Beach- a little more local- Nate at Air Pirates- great place with steady afternoon wind and no crowds.

Floras Lake- best place to learn on the west coast!! Will, Andy and the brady clan!!!

As Jeff mentioned... unlike other sports, you can't kitesurf just anywhere. You'll need to take lessons in locations like Hood River where there are actually conditions for kiting (wind).

And almost as important as the wind is a safe place to launch and land the kite. Unless you are an expert you will need a beach with no obstacles and shallow water out a ways.
