I recently picked up a '95 Kawasaki Jet Ski that the owner could not start and needed to remove from where he had it stored. He gave it to me to fix, part out or dump. I cleaned, fixed and painted anything that needed attention. $235 (new battery, bendix, rebuilt carb, fiber glass, misc hardware, lubricants...) later I have a well running machine. The engine is strong and all systems work well. If I counted my time it was not a great deal. Marine repair is not a mystery to me, but I have never worked on a jet ski. The knowledge I gained will be valuable for future purchases. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

I want to use this jet ski to pull my kids on a wake board and slowly teach my almost 10 year old son how to kite board. It is time to customize the Jet Ski to my personal needs. I am at the point where I want to figure out how to carry a 2nd person and our kite gear.

I am looking for a way to carry 2+ boards without having to hang onto them. I see that Seadoo has a single board side rack that is not a universal fit. I am wondering if just modifying a ski boat tower rack to mount on the back would be the best solution.

Does anyone have a rack solution for for carrying kite boards on a Jet Ski?

most of the skis I see used for lessons don't have racks (snag issues)
hit up NSI for some of the surfboard deck padding and put it wherever your board will be touching.
check out rescue ron's rig. he has it dialed

I did not even consider snag issues. It makes sense though. It is the same on commercial fishing boats. Everything needs to be snag free because net webbing is flying around. I have 9 pretty fingers and one ugly one because fingers are not snag free. I was going over the stern when my flesh gave way. Very Happy

thx for setting me straight and keeping my costs down.

Love the way Ron customized the jetski will all the padding. Will definitly look to do the same on mine. My short approach to protect the jet ski from fins of the board was to use rack pads on the fin side of the board maintained in place with a bungee cord going through them and connected on the other side of the board. Frankly, it's a bit of a pain to carry the extra pads and Ron's option definitely seems better and more convenient as long as you are ok adding padding permanently on your jetski.

The other thing I do, which I believe is important, is secure the boards to the jetski (preventing them from sliding backwards and/or out of the side channels). For that, I use a suction cup with a bungee cord that I loop around the handle of the board and/or footstrap depending on where you can find a flat section on the jetski to mount the suction cup. That works surprisingly well and it's very easy to attach and detach from the board and jetski. It allows me to carry two boards for long distance without having to worry about having them fall off. It's especially useful if you are teaching your kid (or someone) and want to have a second board with you (for you) and not having to worry about losing it while you do jetski assist.

I will try to post some pics of my setup but you can get a pretty good feel of it on my video here:

Hope this helps.

Suction cups to hold boards on the jet ski and rack pads for paint/epoxy protection while riding.

Suction cups look like a great idea.
Who make them, and where did you purchase them?
I'll track down the NSI padding as well next time in the Hood.

Found the suction cups at West Marine in Tigard.

I used two different types:

Type 1: simple but not strong suction and have tendency to slide when the walls of the jetski are covered with water. However it still works ok. A set of 4 suction cups came with the following fenders:

Type 2: much stronger suction due to mechanical lever. Great for surfboard too. Designed for SUP and Kayacks.

As for the bungee cords, I bought a large assortment of different types at Home Depot and tried different things. See pics above.
