Any recommendations on where to kite this week? I had a great session on Sunday at the Event Site. Today I drove to Manzanita and realized that I need to learn how to kite a surfboard first but loved watching! So I'm here for the week and can't tell how reliable the windguru or windsurfer forecasts are.
Help please. I'm staying in Hood River. Should I go to Rufus? Stevenson? rooster Rock? I'm intermediate!
Thanks! |

I highly recommend http://thegorgeismygym.com/forecast/
It is updated every morning.
Tomorrow should be very interesting with the wind blowing in reverse. Wed should be back to normal.
Welcome to the gorge! _________________ Jeff |

You don't have to use a directional for Manzanita, I've used my twintip a lot, but it helps when getting out when the waves are big. Stevenson from 11-2 is your best bet. Jones has a chance. If you haven't been to Stevenson before, the launch can be intimidating, but just watch others for a while. Wednesday looks big everywhere, probably 5-6m even at the Sandbar. Windance has a lot of cheap used kites if you don't have a small one. |

Welcome, and it should be an epic week starting Weds at the event site! Today (tues) is gong to be a scorcher though with not much wind in the Gorge. I'll likely be heading to Sauvie's Island outside Portland in the PM though, since it tends to blow there under these conditions.

Thanks for the great tips. I'll head to Stevenson this am and check things out. I might go to Sauvie Island too depending. I'm the short Asian girl with the North Fuses. 7 and 9m. If you see me, please say hi!

I like to look at this one for Sauvies not the best forecast but close enough

If your in Hood skip Sauvies just go to coast and ride a twin tip. Unless you want to just swim and sit on a beach drinking with a bunch of rednecks. It's delightful sometime but if you want to kite I wouldn't put high hopes on Sauvies for today
It's totally fine to ride your regular board at the coast. _________________ Join the CGKA! Membership is only $10! Sign up at http://cgka.net/become-a-member/ |

^I'll second what Bettyboarder said. Stevenson will have better wind today it looks like but the small margin for error makes it a bit challenging. Rooster is blowing hard right now but I think there might not be any beach. this week should shape up pretty well for you. |

I kited today @ Stevenson. So freaked out by the narrow weird launch that I sat in my wetsuit for over a freakin hour. Saw a girl catch her lines and abort so that added more hesitation. But I went out snd kicked ass until i tried a trick and lost my board! and then had to get rescued! So I am way more confident now. Kudos to Chris the Handsome North Dice guy who put my kite on its leading edge at least twice before I realized my 7m wasn't going to catch any more wind. He kept circling to make sure I was okay and then brought my board back. He rocks!
Kudos to the steamboat guys who volunteered to recscue me and thanks to Bob Stawicki for boating me back to the launch site. It was my first time @ Stevenson but I loved it. Thanks to Alberta Jeff for helping me launch and for the SUP when I had to rescue my floating board!
You guys all rock!
Happy Canada Day indeed!

Hey Jennifer I think we met yesterday (I had the green fuel). Sketchy launch but it was fun!
Great first session in the gorge for me, looking forward to some west wind magic at the sandbar this week |
