Well, I was thinking strap on a few model rockets for EZ kites relaunch.

But realizing you'll want to use this feature in lulls / jumps too, you should go with liquid rockets by converting one strutt to a liquid oxygen tank and another to liquid hydrogen tank.

What could go wrong!? Very Happy

Look, this guy had a working setup, but had trouble w/ the water relaunch!

makes your leading edge bladder exploding seem pretty tame!

For what it's worth, I did the actual calculations to address this question definitively. It ought to be intuitive that helium wouldn't make a significant difference, but it's still interesting to do the numbers!: http://theideafactoryonline.org/helium-filled-kites/

Very interesting - does your weight - lift balance for the helium case include buoyancy for the bladder volume ? Pretty small as well, for 78 liters I think around 0.1 kg. Bladder volume is too small to make it significant, but if the kite was a big fat twin-skin foil sealed tight and filled with helium then the buoyancy would be significant ...

You are bound to screw up the balance of the kite.

The kite's balance is a very critical element in stall recovery and turning.
you need the leading edge to roll through into dive to recover a stall bellow 11:00 or 1:00.

If you have ever flown a poorly designed kite that crashes every time it stalls you know how critical the balance is.

well balanced kites will stall, and recover gracefully.
