A great day in the Hood, solid with lots of gusty.

Big giddy smile on my face as I came in and landed my kite (in the designated landing zone). Another guy did the same thing just seconds before me, and as I walked up to my kite to drop my board on it, I hear some old kook yell belligerently,"Hey are ya gonna pick up your lines??!!" we kind of look at each other then I say, "yeah" but the old fella continues to walk out his lines out on top of both of ours anyway.

No biggie, people are people and more than one way to swing a cat, I figure the guy must be from somewhere else. So I ask him politely if he's from around here, and he again beligerantly retorts, "Yeah 25 years!!!" completely indignated and continues to march around walking his lines on top of everyone.

Everyone I know and have observed walks their lines out anywhere EXCEPT the landing/launching zones as described by the Port's Event Site use diagram, and GIANT PAINTED LINES on the grass. Makes sense right? don't walk out your 75ft of tangled mess where kites are falling out of the sky or skipping down the beach on failed launches. But I guess not to the daring or short of stature.

This is just the beginning of another year of awesome westerlies, amazing swells and unbridled idiots who've lived here too long and developed entitlement complexes, as well as idiots who leave their dogs to roam and scavenge lunches off of picnic tables then get sent off to the pound (yours truly).

Have fun out there, remember not to take yourself too seriously is my take on that. I just smile and shake my head sometimes though... Takes all kinds.

Same kind of thing used to happen at launches back in the windsurfing heydays. At some spots there would only be a narrow path to the water and "the local" who believed he owned the place would dump his board and sail right in the middle of the path.

Then if you walked over it or touched it trying to get past he'd launch in to a tirade about respect !

Smile big and laugh, it's all you can do.

Bingo. I never understand agro people when they're going kiting. Rolling Eyes

The "flow" of traffic comes and goes with launching and landing so a little patience goes a long way in timing it. Some of the newer guys look nervous as the Event Site can get punchy so don't stress because we've all been there before so ask for help but please be ready. Kite fully inflated. Harness on, helmet on, life jacket, safety clipped in, board, go-pro....etc..whatever you need for your session make sure it's ready to roll BEFORE you run your lines down to the water for a launch. Saving time upfront helps everyone as your only focus is giving the thumbs up and getting out! Thumb's Up Get sum!
