One of our snowkite buddies, Johann Civel, just kited an amazing session a couple of weeks ago in the French Alps. Kite up, ski down. Check out these numbers recorded by the kitetracker app:

10 hour session. 87 miles traveled. 6 or so different summits. Top speed of 45 mph.

And, the really big number:
Total vertical ascended: 50,505 feet.

Yeah basically equivalent to 2 Mt. Everest summits - from sea level. Another way to look at it: imagine kiting from the base camp at Everest to the summit 6 times in one 10-hour session.

Up in Alaska we charge hard to put in 20,000 vertical in a day kiting.

In comparison, a big day heli-skiing is 25,000 vertical in a day.

50,505 feet in a day is just awesome and will open up a lot of minds to what can be done with a kite.

Great job Johann.

50K vertical is spectacular! I've managed 20K once but bottom to top ascents were running 3-500 ft. I was totally thrashed when I was done. Must have been an incredible day w/all the stars aligned to achieve that #. Amazing!

Of course having Johanns skills is a big plus
