with the simmer season "about" to start, i'm thinking about new gear. I know there is no brand vs brand abuse on here but i would like some info. Has anyone here flown the 2013 or 2014 OR Razor and can give an idea of what it does well and what it does not so well. just kind of a pro/con about this one kite in 10m &/or 8m sizes.

and yes I know, I should demo it, as always…

as there are a million kites to demo I was hoping to thin it down with some basic info first. thanks to anyone who can give a bit of help.

Demo's can be difficult, but when the marketing, sun, and wind gods allow it, I love those big kite Demi's at the coast. Last one I did was a well run event by Cleanline and a well known brand from HR/Stevenson area. Reps and shop owner and crew ran a great demo! I suppose it would be a different story if held at a windier spot on the OR coast. Problem there is distance from the masses.

Hey Windance is hosting a kite demo weekend at Rufus on June 21st & 22nd.
We will have our 3 brands there; Slingshot, Ocean Rodeo & Best. Plus team riders, reps, burger, beer and a Sat night party.

We did it last year but got totally skunked and still had a good time. Hope you can make it, spread the word.

Dave

'13 Razor 10m has been a staple 'go to' kite for many riders here in Victoria.

turns well, relaunches great, wide range, good depower etc etc you've probably heard it before..

it does require some time on the water to discover the magic of the kite and some people don't like the white leading edge, or Venturi / FST tech....

gotta try before you buy ideally but I don't think you'll be unhappy with it!

What kind of riding do you do? Wave, freestyle / boots, freeride mixed??

mixed for sure but mostly waves on a directional, strap and loaded when overpowered and boosting, strapless when the waves are clean and bigger
and hooked freestyle, boosting spiny twisty stuff on the tt when it is flatter or choppy. shoulders don't like the unhooked anymore.
So, do not really care about slack any longer. more hooked loops, turning speed and "drift"(although that means different things to different people) and also upwind ability.
and yes, i am sure in its upper range it jumps well Laughing

I've been on the Razors since 2010 and have nothing but good things to say about them. Excellent low end and almost unlimited depower when it's crankin'. I've never had the kite do any weird stuff when very overpowered. I ride in the Gorge mostly but get to the coast for waves as often as I can. It works great in all conditions. They are very responsive, quick turning and easy to relaunch. I've tried a lot of different kites and I just keep liking the Razors. I admit bias because I am so use to them but the local dealer, Windance, sells two other great brands and I still fly the Razors. Hope this helps.
