Mon Feb 17, 14 12:02 pm Costa Rica Wind and Waves Inquiry |
|
|
I've done some searching on NWKite looking for info on finding wind and waves in Costa Rica. Most info seems to point to Bahia de Salinas's flat water. Not bad, I'm just looking for waves and surf to kite. I've been asking people that I have heard have been to CR and looking on the net, but I haven't seen a lot of information specific to kitesurfing. If anyone has personal experience on where to go and the best range of time to go or a good website, it would be greatly appreciated.
Two websites I've found that have been a little help are

Thanks for info, leaving soon for Lake Arenal, Manuel Antonio area no time for Bahia. I know the waves are great but no one seems to know much about the wind possibilities. They are limited Im sure.. Anyone here been to the pacific side to ride waves? |

Lurk,
Manuel Antonio is on the Pacific side. The whole Pacific coast has great surf - easy to google.
Do you mean to ask about the Caribbean side? I've been to Salsa Brava (google). It's agreat spot for advanced surfers..... more spots a few miles down the road that are user friendly. No towns.... shacks on the beach, euro rasta surfers, and serious jungle/rain forest. Everybody under the age of 30. Long drive from Arenal. No wind on that side.
There's great surf around Manuel Antonio. The campground at MA has the best body surfing in the world. At least it did back in 1994!
I've heard rumors about wind on the pacific side - but never found anyone with first hand experience. |

Thanks Idhr. I will probably stick to surfing on the Pacific side unless I hear about wind. |

Hi, I kited in the Bahia de Salines several years ago. The reason they don't kite the coast in that area is because the wind direction is offshore.
