The Kona winds were strong all day today. Currently it's around midnight and it's howling (the wind doesn't usually blow at night around here). Very rare. Only a couple of times per year.
I saw lots of guys kiting the Konas. Sketchy because of the offshore factor - but awesome because of offshore winds into waves. Not much swell today but maybe a small bump tomorrow.
Just a heads up from the islands. Check out some cams maybe?

With a swell this would be epic! All the kites and sails are pointed in the opposite direction. Sorry I don't have any photos or anything. Saw it all on the way to work.

Thanks for posting the video. I had some great sessions launching from kihei and the wailai area on kona winds. Super fun and a totally different view than I was accustomed to. Happy new year over there!!

Well... nevermind. I guess yesterday was it. Now we've got a big nasty weather system parked over the island.
