Fri Nov 29, 13 9:46 pm 10m Bar on an 8m Kite? |
|
|
Is it advisable to use a 10m bar with an 8m kite?
Looking to pick up a smaller kite and wondering if I can just use the 10m bar.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Sounds like no issue. How big is the bar?

Of course it depends on the brand. Some may have the same bar and lines for 8 and 10 meter kites. (which obviously would be no problem at all)
I have had fun with my 8m RPM with the 10m lines on days where the wind was on the light side for the 8. 10m Bar is wider and lines are longer. It is a good time if you want to boost bigger, loop harder and dangle. It just takes a little longer to get the kite to where you send it, since it has farther to go.
Check it out.

I use the same bars (lengths) on all my kites from 6m to 17m - the smaller the kite, the faster it is going to respond. Sometimes I will fold my lines in half for snowkiting and kiteskating but other than that once you get used to the response your going to be fine.
This photo from today snowkiting in AK. 7m Ocean Rodeo Prodigy and 55cm freeride bar with 23m lines. - no problems, had a blast.

Same here. Medium size bar on all kites. I do have one longer bar (55cm) that is nicer to use on 15m and up but it's not required. Just gives a bit more leverage.
