Getting a new quiver and I am laboring over kite choices.
I have ridden fuels forever and love how you can pivot the kite on a dime and do a proper bottom turn. They work great for the oregon coast side and side on conditions. But they just don't drift that well in side off conditions. I got schooled in baja this summer in side off w big hurricane swell. And i havent slept well since.
So, which kites going to give me that quickness yet handle gusts and wider variety of conditions? Rally or Rpm? Ozone Rio fans out there? |

Were there others killing it in the conditions your were struggling in?
What kites were they riding?
Sorry to hear it rattled you so bad.
I heard knitting is a fun hobby.
Just ask your self what would Dan K do , and his proctologist may enlighten you as well. |

Slingshits are way overpriced. Bridled kites won't turn as fast or be as good unhooked. If you like to ride on oversized kites or in gusty wind get one otherwise stick with those fuels or find another 4 line c for a better price.
My boy Dan k (#1PNW WAVE RIDER)will tell you the same thing. For unhooked wave riding, which is how it should be done, a 4 line c, no bridle is the way. _________________ ''If Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. I think you might prefer RPMs over the Rallys if you like the quick pivotal turning of the Fuels. RPMs drift quite well, but not as well as Rallys. I flew RPMs for years and loved them and this year switched to 2014 Rallys which in my opinion are superior kites to RPMs in all aspects excepts they don't turn as fast and also are not as reactive to subtle bar movements. If SS can ever dial into the great characteristics of the two kites, then that will be the perfect surf kite.
Good luck in your quest for the holy grail. |

Why don't you two pussy wimps just own up and start riding two line kites and no harness, and be real men about your words? |

What is the advantage of flying two line kites with no harness? |

Back to the original posters question. I'm not going to compare to other kites, but if your looking for a wave kite, I would say you really should try out the Cabrinha Drifter. I'm no expert but these kites have allowed me to focus on the wave and forget about the kite until I want it. |

Since you are obviously inexperienced greenies, you never got to feel the "always full throttle" of a revved up two line kite from over a decade ago. And if you are wanting to ride unhooked, why have a bulky harness on with harness lines in your way when grabbing the bar with your herculian hands and forarms?
Like I said before you two are wimps! |

PM windian. I think he was riding RPMs and recently switched to Rally. SimPistol is digging Best Cabo...he's had good things to say about the drift. I'm stuck in RPM land...seems fine. I don't think I care too much. I generally get my ass handed to me monthly and it has nothing to do with kite design I'm sure. No pure c's living south of blanco I think. Maybe we are a bunch of pansies?
Can all the kite companies come down to the south coast for a demo day. All 5 of us need to do some trials. . Seems that Aldridge and rebstock and the caution boys seem to be getting along on bridle kites pretty well.
Get ahold of will Brady or Andy bolt at Floras lake. I'm sure they can get you a demo set up.
Good luck with the choosin'. Be interested in your final choice. Post up after you re-quiver. |

I disagree. I'm guessing you ride somewhere where the wind sets up to more unhook and park the kite as you ride down the line. But at some less than ideal spots like manzanita (pretty on-shore) many C-kites, like fuels, are actually pretty slow and will rip you off the wave face when bottom turning, especially unhooked. Some bridled kites do a better job than C-'s in pivoting in the window.
The main saving grace for C-kites unhooked in the waves is that they are way less likely to luff and backstall than most newer non-C's, BUT if you are on a big wave and the wind has more of an onshore component you can slack the lines hard and find yourself in a frustrating situation. |

The conditions that frustrated me were double overhead long wrapping baja point waves(obviously not ventana). No one rides unhooked when its blowin 30 in those conditions. The fuel was luffing and stalling. THey work sick if you keep them moving in onshore conditions but not so great in the ones I described.
no offense to the unhooked crew, but ive seen a lot of them just wiggling down the line like is a river wave.
Thanks for the input. Im just going to borrow all your kites at the beach and make up my mind for myself. haha |

I'm a surfer before a kiter and IMHO the Ben Wilson kites work extremely well in all wave conditions. Price is right and they are built tough. |

If you want an unbridled kite that will drift, try a Rebel. I frequent side off conditions in Baja, and when it's 30, the 7M Rebel is magic. Just so happens that it works in side on conditions as well. |

randomly purchased a BW 6m this summer, to fill a hole in quiver. kite is great, no complaints, flies like a Rev, which is what he based it off and then tweaked it |
