I don't think these where the North prototypes or the guys from North. The guy who had them made is just some weekend warrior from Canada, if I remember correctly? The shapes he toyed with did not appear to perform very well like a more refined North kite probably would. He was struggling to make upwind progress.

Thanks, salmonslayer, those were very interesting posts.

New materials are certainly being developed fast. I just bought a kite from Advance in Europe which is made with some brand new material that is much lighter than Dacron. I haven't got it yet, but from reading about it I reckon it will be considerably more powerful than Dacron-made kites of that size. The main thing for me will be to see if it lasts longer than Dacron, though, because if it doesn't last longer, it's not going to be worth the money - it cost nearly twice as much as I would pay for the same size of Dacron-made kite.

I think its fair enough to patent your creative design and prevent others from copying or making something similar to it.

it's fair to say someone who doesn't know the difference between Fair and Fare probably is not a patent attorney.

And why is someone reviving this kookathon topic anyway?

I have an industrial sewing machine I use to make board bags with and do minor repairs with. I am a DIYer. What type of sewing machines(stretch type) do they use for making and repairing kites?

I believe they are called children but sometimes you may find young adults, too. Laughing

HaHa, good one Dern. Thinking of adopting a Chinese child to take over my repair biz!

Don't bitch when these children grow up and own your mortgage.

How much more would it cost to have kites made in the states??? I would be willing to pay a premium for something manufactured in the states.

Straight stitch and zigzag. Ideally you would use a walking foot sewing machine and likely two machines as these are industrial and are built to do one job very well. Probably get away with a single straight stitch machine.
