Thu Sep 26, 13 7:46 am OR North Coast on SSE Winds? |
|
|
Hi Guys,
I've finally got the chance to get out to the coast this weekend, it's been a couple years since I've last ridden there. It looks like there's going to be wind - but it's SSE. Is it worth the drive several hours or am I better off waiting for a NW wind? We're totally comfortable riding northwest winds, but can imagine southeasterlies could be dangerous sideoff conditions. Would you drive 5 hours for a weekend session with this weekend's forecast, or wait for a NW setup?
Thanks!

YES, this weekend. Se winds can be done, but it depends how much east is in it. I've kited storms that indicate SE, and S to Sw is usually more steady from what I've observed.
Not sure where your getting your info and not sure what part of the coast your looking at, but this weekend looks great for wind. Swell could be a bit bigger though as its only predicted to be 18' on Sunday

Friday looks the most tame and probably will have the smoothest waves. There on out, your most likely to be surfing the reform on the inside--at least I would. Sounds like it's going to be mushburger haven out there.

Thanks Sasquatch I got my forecast from here:
http://www.bigwavedave.ca/forecasts.php?page=1
it's based on models from University of Washington, I find they are surprisingly accurate for BC, but judging on your forecast they're calling for a bit too much East in the southerly. I like your forecast better, as long as there's some onshore component to the wind I'm down.

My "sources" suggest the winds could be considerably stronger Friday and Saturday than the public forecast. I'm thinking of heading out tomorrow morning, and I'd expect to be off the water by mid-afternoon, in part because I think my 7m could be too big.

Hey guys, what towns on the coast do you like best?
I'm heading out this weekend with a buddy and we are going to check out Seaside. Any others?
The only time i've kited on the coast was with my trainer kite and a mountain board. Finally got up on the water about a month ago, pumped to check out the coast again!

I'm not saying this poster is one of the bad guys, but let's not shout out to everyone in the PNW where the cars with gear will be parked this weekend. one post, created today. just saying

It only took about 10 minutes of reading your past posts to find every kite spot in the NW.
Just looking to join in the fun, no need to be exclusive about it.

I don't think that exclusivity is his worry. I think he's concerned about the possibility of "bad guys" using this forum to find cars full of valuable kiting gear to grab.

You want to try the ocean after finally getting up a month ago? Darwinism at its finest. Please go where no one will be on the beach as your going to be a danger to yourself and others. Sunny NW wind and 3' swell day u should go on. Not the sh#t storm this coming weekend. You like the taste of pooh? Cause most likely your going to have your ass handed to you.
Like the stoke u got, but part of learning how to be a good kiter is knowing when to stand down...
