Whether they are friends or strangers, it is a disservice to sell these kites a less than knowledgeable beginners. Older C=kites are harder to learn on and will slow progression. It is just not a good value for a beginner.

I have sold a few of these older kites on eBay. The first thing is my description of the kite states that" These are not beginner kites. These kites are for people that know what they are buying" or something similar that clearly discourages new kiteboarders. I can't control who actually has the winning bid.

It is a free market. Sell away, but, I think you/I also have an ethical responsibility to disclose that these are not good beginner kites. Anything else is bad karma (in my opinion) and kite boarders are known to have huge amounts of bad karma weighing down one side of the scale. Grab the good stuff whenever you can.

If you own these older kites don't sell them to these "quick turn a buck on someone else's safety either"

One newbie with a $150 C-Kite launching at a populated beach puts the sport and access at risk.

Make a tent , hand bag or even a jacket out of your old kites.

Thumb's Up Thumb's Up Thumb's Up

I turned my 2004 11m Fuel in to a Windblock for the beach. I had dangler sew loops on to the end of each strut. Set the inflated kite just downwind of my truck parked on the beach, tie off the strut tips to the truck. I can kite while my wife enjoys a sunny day on the beach! Next step is to find some folding tent poles to replace the struts. Very Happy

I am new to kiteboarding and on an extreme budget so when a great deal came up for kites I jumped at it. Talking to an instructor about them (didn't have picks) he seemed to think that they where probably c-kites. I am hoping to get some verification on exactly what type of kites they are with these pics. They are Naish Boxers from 2006 with 5 lines. If they are c-kites will I kill myself or my bride if we use them to learn on??? Thanks.

Seems like this would have been a good question to ask, or at least research prior to buying them. I never understand why people buy a bunch of crap, then ask if it's any good later. This has happened multiple times here, why not ask first, buy later.

Just last week two young guys showed up at our beach with a SS fuel circa 2002. NO harness, lines wrapped around kite, and a wakeboard with BOOTS.
They bought off Ebay... They planned to "try it out" with no lessons. Luckily Bob from Kiteriders talked them out of it. BUT they went to another part of the park and pumped up anyway! Again luckily the wind died after they were ready to go...

So yeah selling guns/kites/cars to peeps carries some RESPONSIBILITY. Don't be ridiculous.

Yup, it would have been a great question to ask before buying! Some times you just don't what you don't know.

Exactly my point, this sport is hard to get into, so shortcuts are very enticing.

You should write a book, or a blog, or put some videos on YouTube about why people who are new to kiteboarding should not be permitted to make any desission before demeaned by someone on a soap box. That would have helped me! Look, I am getting instruction, watching videos, asking guys in shops, checking review and consulting forums learning to be safe before any thing else. I don't need anyone wagging there finger at me!

Oops sorry I did not mean to be rude. You are being responsible. I just meant that OTHER more knowledgable people should not take advantage of those new to the sport. You are the victim here, and the a--holes who sell crap w/o guidance to make a buck are pissing me off. Then beaches get closed etc...

I know a lot of people on this forum will be glad to help you out.

@ JonpnW sell your kites before you have to make raincoats out of them, it will save you much more money. Plus how many custom tailored raincoats/ tents do you need?
