Brand new to Kite boarding. I live in Woodland WA (Vancouverish) and wonder if there is anyone closer than Sauvie or Jones that could meet up after work and try flying from Martin's bar (Woodland). I have a Jet Ski that can be use to save my novice arse.

Martins Bar has enough wind sometimes, but it is very popular with fisherman so it gets pretty crowded along the shore with fishing poles. I started kiting last year but would like to try the bar sometime because i live close to Woodland.
That said it is tough to beat Jones for a beginner. Plus their is usually other kiters their and kite instructors.

Good points. I have actually been launching a few minutes north of Martins Bar at a very secluded island.....it takes a few minutes by jet ski. The wind is spotty, but this time of year is pretty good between 4PM to sunset. I've never been to Jones or Sauvies because I don't have a good support group ( usually my wife who doesn't really like the sport) in case I crash hard. I'd love to try Jones.

Start at Kalama bro.
Woodland has too many pylons.
Especially if you're 'brand new".

Question for you Woodland / Kalama kiters. How do you forecast wind there. Martins bar is an awesome beach to kite from but after too much skunkage I gave up.
What size kites do you typically use ?

Look for North wind in the Kelso weather forecast. NW wind can work too, but you really want North. A nice Kelso-Portland pressure gradient also helps, or Olympia-PDX.
Example from weather underground: Tuesday 7/2/13 Partly cloudy in the morning, then clear. High of 88F. Winds from the NNW at 5 to 15 mph.
Also, look for an outgoing tide. Incoming tides make for troublesome riding.
