just read this article where Greg Long pretty much drowned at Cortes Bank, (spoiler he survives, barely)

http://www.surfermag.com/features/in-harm%E2%80%99s-way/

and right after saw this

http://www.techwench.com/scientists-invent-oxygen-particle-that-if-injected-allows-you-to-live-without-breathing/

brings to mind future uses, eh?

Many of the big wave surfing elite will readily admit that they are "walking ghosts".
They are a unique breed of hell charger that love to surf big waves even with the real possibility of death when they don't make waves. Respect!!

Greg Long got taken out my Garrett Macnamara (who was riding a powered surfboard... wtf?) and almost died. Greg would have been fine if he didn't have to avoid G.Mac...

Shane Dorian has invented the airbag wetsuit that inflates if a surfer is held down for too long. These guys don't have a death wish.... I'm sure they will all take oxygen pills if they can.

Cool story!

There is a lot going down when riding BIG waves. It's hard to tell if someone is going to catch it, make it, or what ever. How do you know he got "taken out by Garrett" ? Where you there? It wouldn't have mattered what Garrett was riding, shit happens and Big wave surfers " share " big waves . It's funny how KOOK'S all talk shit about what happened, but were they weren't even there. Have they ever ridden a wave bigger WAVE than 3 feet? DOUBT IT !!Unless you've ridden a wave at least 25', then you should just shut the fuck up! ....and stick to kiting. And if you can do better then paddle out and show em' how to not drop in when it's 25'+. KOOK.

Biggest I've ridden is triple overhead, and I am comfortable in double overhead stuff. Really, you're picking the wrong person to call a kook, but if it makes you feel better, go nuts. The funny part is that when it comes to kiting I'm a complete noob & kook, just learning and stoked, but I've been surfing for 20 years.

GMac was on a powered surfboard... it has a frigging engine. Basically he's washed up and still trying to be in the big-wave game and trying to make some money with sponsorships/etc. In my opinion, and many people's opinion, he shouldn't have been shoulder hopping on a motorized board... that's weak sauce.

Am I part of that elite crew? Hell no. I never will be. But if you watch the videos or look at the pics, you can see that GMac was out of control and waited too long to set his bottom turn. GMac has reportedly had a couple other faux pas' lately, but if you're the gnarly enforcer that your internet persona leads us to believe, you probably know all that stuff already.

Thumb's Up

Dangler;

The oxygen microbubble thing is sick! There is one draw back though - they have to devise some way to remove carbon dioxide from your blood too.

It's a super smart idea.

Pretty common knowledge that Garrett dropped in on him. Like a big time poach. Greg did not make a big deal out of it, but it seams everyone else there did. Garrett was on a wavejet board from what I heard.

Yes its obvious that Garrett dropped in on him and they both ate it. My point is ...that stuff happens all the time to all the big wave surfers. Dorian almost took off Wassel's head @ Jaws the last swell too shoulder hopping. Maybe he didn't see him in both cases. Don't get your panties in a wad Shivers. No one is picking on you and no ones enforcing here. You've been surfing for 20 years so i guess you can claim Garrett's a shoulder hopper, can't control his surfboards, and is all washed up if you want . Thumb's Up He is 46 years old after all. Everybody there did make a big deal out of it . I'm just saying everyone makes mistakes out there and Shivers is just another Kook to judge it.
