Does this imply that there will be less shallows to ride in at the sandbar?

It will be interesting to see if the flow forecasts are correct and the sandbar sticks around and Rufus remains rideable all Spring. It certainly looks like we won't see the huge currents and super high water like we have had the past couple of years.

There is still a ton of snow on mt hood. 111" as of today.
It will indeed be interesting to see how the late snow melt will affect levels.

Those forecasts aren't good long term, as they're based on averaging past climatology, An out of the ordinary weather change will change the entire forecast. That said, 111 inches is half of what we had the last few years on Mt Hood, though the Columbia River basin is massive.

The good thing is we won't have high water into July.

Most of the Snake River system which feeds into the Columbia is around 70-90% of normal snowpack. Not sure about what is going on in Canada near the Columbia's source though.

I read that the Mt Hood drainage was at or slightly above normal, but all of the other drainages that feed the Columbia range from 50% to 90% of normal. So, barring a late season snowstorm it could be a pretty good Summer! Smile

May rain. Don't plan any sandbar cleanups until at least Memorial Day, and not without taking a second look at water stored behind dams upstream
